Oronga (Orongaa) was the 28th Robot Kaiju deploy by the Dark Horror Army, serving as the Monster of the week in the 24th Episode of the original Dino Mech Gaiking; "The Guardian God of Eastern Island".
_Appearances and Abilities_
Oronga was a Turtle Dark Horror Kaiju Robot – No friend of the Children - with a Pink Shell covered in Black and Yellow Spots and two spikes on the forward top; its head was brown with cat like ears and a single spike on top, it mouth full of sharp teeth; it under belly was gray and purple, with a similar scheme for the legs, feet and tail.
Oronga could spew fire from its mouth and its shell, which the monster would seek refuge into, was strong to block the attacks of the Daiku Maryu; the light pink edges of the shell sport portholes that would eject a row of spikes around, the Kaiju would then spin attack the enemy head on while inside its shell, and in its second battle with the Daiku Maryu, it was seen capable of flight. It's major weakness is by inverting the giant robot upside down.
Oronga was among the many Dark Horror Robots left behind by the Ancient Zelans thousands of years before the events of the present time, left to slumber in a volcano on Eastern Island, requiring of a sacrifice to awaken it.
_History_
When the large Statue of Moai come to life and shutdown a passenger plane with Tourist, the Daiku Maryu flies to Easter Island to investigate the situation; as soon they land, they come under attack by the Living Statues, but these stand no chance against the Daiku Maryu and are dispose of quickly and following a quick inspection of their debris, they discover the statues were Modified Robots, indicating to signs of Zelan presence on the island.
Soon, the group explores the island searching for more statues, with Yamagatake destroying some of the real statues in the process. Though the teams find nothing, Pete and Midori proceed to explore the Ranu Kau volcano – its also important to note this one of a few time, Bazolar is piloted by others than Yamagatake. When on the site of the Volcano, they see images carved on the rocks, among them a deity turtle named Oronga; soon the duo come under attack by Dark Avians, one of which kidnaps Midori after she had called for help to ship. Pete, on the edge of a cliff, outgun and outnumbered, is saved by Fan-Li on the Skylar – Sanshiro and Yamagatake tagging to help too – then search the area for Midori. Elsewhere, in space, the Generals are in Conference with the Emperor, informing him of the situation and plan to use Midori as sacrifice to awaken Oronga (why da hell you need a human sacrifice to awaken a Robot? The others didn't need this.)
After failing to find Midori by dusk, Sanshiro can only but be angry with Pete, when they start hearing drums near by; investigating, they find Dark Avian Soldiers dancing in ritual with Midori tied to a pole; the ceremony triggers an eruption, which awakens the Dark Horror Robot Oronga from its long centuries of slumber and in the ensuing chaos, the Quartet rescues Midori, but Sanshiro and Pete are captured in the process when the former try to help the latter when pinned by a rock - the giant Turtle Robot heading towards the Daiku Maryu; the ship makes a stand against the Monster, but without Pete or Sanshiro skills, the Daiku Maryu is incapable of repelling the Beast, specially when breaking through its hard shell. Oronga, with a blast of its flames and then Spin attack which causing system damage, pushes the Daiku Maryu over the cliff and into the Sea; An oil slick and explosion follow its fall, giving the Generals the impression they had won and celebrate, ready to execute Pete and Sanshiro, not knowing the demise of the Daiku Maryu was a ruse by the team to allow them repair the ship through the night.
(Note: What is funny about the Generals celebrating is that in many instances through the show we are reminded they are Robots, but seems they too can get wasted with fine Wine )
The following morning, Sanshiro and Pete are tied to poles, ready for execution, when the Daiku Maryu emerges from the sea, saving them on time - the development only evokes nothing but the ire of Darius once more and Oronga is set out again to confront the heroes – with Pete and Sanshiro back at their posts, the two Pilots are ready to take the Beast head on. Pete Rams the Monster in the air, causing it to crash, while Sanshiro tries to take it down with Saur Geyser and Hydro Blazer, but these fail to break Oronga's hard shell. Daimonji suggest the two follow a plan by inverting and then decapitating the monster. Following his suggestion, Gaiking is launched and assemble calling the Beasts attention, while Daiku Maryu digs its way underground, then comes out from below the Monster, causing it to fall upside down, with the Daiku Maryu pinning it with one of the legs; Pete fires Dragon cutter, decapitating the Monster, which allows Sanshiro to use a new attack with Face Open, Death Fire, and then Hydro Blazer, fired into the hole, thus dispatching Oronga.
Not far, Avian Capsules are seeing taking off, and while the Daiku Maryu chooses to spare the escapees, this act of humanity is not carried in General Killer, who orders their remote destruction for their cowardice; even Dankell viewing this as too extreme, though not willing to comment further when Killer asked him if "he wanted to take responsibility for the ordeal?".
Team Daiku Maryu enjoys the view of Ranu Kau, having learn of its Mysteries, with minor teasing to Sanshiro.
