When he was young, Searl was taught the ways of the Fish Eagle, hunting for fish being first and foremost among them. It takes a great deal of practice and effort to spot the best opportunity among the shimmering waves, and to time the dive precisely.

When he was older, Searl discovered that it takes much less practice and effort just to take a fish or two from someone who had already caught some. The previous owners were rarely happy with this arrangement, but given their distinct lack of wings, it wasn't something they could do much about. For now, anyway...
