Ah, that brief period in the late 1990s when Pizzeria Circus tried to restyle its animatronic mascots to be "current". Valerie got this Goth update, which she was into, even if it didn't last. Parents were as displeased as ever. And yet here's some promotional artwork nonetheless.
Further proof that Pizzeria Circus was owned and operated by a small creative team, never focus-tested and never broadly marketed outside of its small local reach.

Of course they did. The whole conceit behind Valerie, since her creation in the early 80s, was a bawdy female entertainer from yesteryear. Back when the notion of animatronic restaurants was more geared towards the general public, and entertaining adults was just as much in the recipe as entertaining kids. Moreso even. In real life these establishments only became geared towards children later on in their evolutions. Valerie is a relic of those times, persisting into the kid era and causing many an Awakening in her young audience.
