For quite some time I've developed characters for an unnamed fantasy setting, from Hector Von Lupin to Edgar Greenscale and all the characters around them. But from today I've decided, finally, to give an identity to the world in which their stories will be told.
I present to you all the Island of Grimmoirea, a continent full of different races and kingdoms, each one with their own story and social construction.

The biggest region of Grimmoirea, ruled by the royal family of the homonym kingdom, the Kingdom of Breata. A flat land for most of its own territory, the region' strenght is in its acceptance of people of every species and culture: individuals from everywhere on Grimmoria live in Breata, each one of them bringing over their own beliefs and knowledge, in a way to make the kingdom stronger. Humans are the most common species in the valley, but, as said, racism isn't an issue at all: Beastfolks, Demons, Fairies, Merfolks and any other race can find their home under the benevolence of the rightful king... at least now that he has returned.
Fooled by his own adoptive brother, the Pixie named Rumpelstiltskin, the monarch went on in a futile war with the Crimson Queen of Vermilia, ruler of the Land of Mineria, leaving power on the kingdom to the Pixie. Rumpelstiltskin, self proclaimed as the Golden Prince, ruled with iron fist on the land as a true tyrant, only opposed by one of the remaining nobles still loyal in his brother: Mary Scarlett, also known as Red Riding Hood. The lady, along her grandma Anne, fought the usurper for years, protecting the people, only for then be taken out by a mercenary hired by the Golden Prince; even after the fall of Red Riding Hood, the people inspired by her fought for their freedom, along their rightful ruler who returned from the war, reclaiming peace in the land.
The actual monarch is now working to rebuild his kingdom after the acts of his adoptive brother, empowering both the farming and the commercial exchanges with other regions, ready to make the valley rise again from its ashes like a phoenix.
A small land at north of the Valley of Breata, and vassal of the bigger kingdom. Once ruled by a fiersome Ogre, the marquisade isn't seeing its best days under the government of the new ruler: a young boy, helped by a cat Beastwoman, who took out the Ogre... but that revealed himself to be totally unworthy of a role of command. The region of Carabas, specialized in farming and cattle breeding, is now falling apart under the guides of their new ruler: incapable in such a role, the Marquis of Carabas is more focused on keeping his luxurious lifestyle than of the wellbeing of his people, as well as an obsession of him is the capture of his past ally, the cat Beastwoman known as Puss in Boots, Caterina Straparola. Noone knows why he hates her so much, but he's offering a very high reward for her capture or kill, using more and more money funds in his attempt to get her.
As in the Valley of Breata, people of any race live in the marquisade, even if, considering the situation between the Marquis and his own arch enemy, Beastmen aren't well seen in this region.
One of the strongest regions on economical level, the Land of Mineria is house of the Kingdom of Vermilia, new name of the Kingdom of Struudal. Ruled with iron fist by the powerful witch known as Crimson Queen, the region is one of the most powerful on magical level: hexes, enchantments, curses and any other kind of spells are vastly encouraged, as well as being helped by the vast number of magical crystals of the land. Both in the mountains of Mineria and in its underground, endless mines are placed: a very big amount of gems, both magical and non magical, are extracted by miners, then kept and used within the kingdom to make it stronger day after day.
Criminals, thieves and killers are welcome under the roof of the Crimson Queen, as long as they serve the crown and don't try to take it down; comradery between villains exists, and who doesn't follows that can be easily executed for how concerns the queen.
The Land of Mineria, in terms of races, is mostly inhabited by Humankind and Dwarfs, along some small communities of Beastfolks, mainly nocturnal in nature and located in the forests.
A vassal kingdom to the Kingdom of Vermilia, named after the mythical creature, the Leviathan, who inhabited the land centuries and centuries ago. Once part of the Land of Mineria, the Leviathan's Dominion was given to an ally of the Crimson Queen, an exiled member of Azurea's royal family, now known as the Sea Witch.
The land ruled by said vassal of the queen of Vermilia is prolific in magic too, with many experts in potion making with little to no rivals; the brew of potionists of the dominion, made with rare plants and products from the darkest depths of the sea, are very strong in nature and quite hard to counter, needing experts from this region of Grimmoria to create effective antidotes.
In her goal of getting revenge on the Kingdom of Azurea, the Sea Witch promotes the pratice of piracy: pirates, corsairs and buccaneers can find a safe place in the Leviathan's Domain, where their robberies make the commercial texture work with marketing of stolen products.
The majority of the inhabitants of this region are Humans, Merfolk and aquatic Beastfolks, with a small minority of Demons and other races from the Barrows of La Flamme.
At first sight just a small island on the outskirts of the Caelestis Empire, where a small comunity of aquatic Beastfolks live without a government, but as people say, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Ruled by King Moanu, the Kingdom of Azurea is a large dominion right under the sea: a great gathering of Merfolks who lives in towns under the water of Grimmoria, living of the products of the ocean. The kingdom is, anyway, very closed on itself: contact with people outside it is strictly forbidden to the Merfolks by order of their king, and the only exception to this is the people who live on the emerged land of the realm, who is instead allowed to interact with people of other regions.
The training of the army of Azurea is one of the main points of King Moanu's guidance, in a way to protect the kingdom from the continous attacks from pirates sent by the Sea Witch in her search of vengeance against the king himself who exiled her, magically preventing the ruler of Leviathan's Dominion to come back to Azurea.
Healing magic is the main feature of the underwater kingdom, even if, considering the closure of the latter to the world, this knowledge hardly arrives to the rest of Grimmoirea.
The most advanced region in terms of technology and magic: the Caelestis Empire is the result of the bond between two specific species, the Elves and the avian Beastfolks. The magical prowess of the Elves, along with the technological capacities of the avian Beastfolks, originated a neutral state, ruled by a diarchy: one emperor for each one of the two main races, usually married one with the other in representation of the bond between the species; all of the most important choices can be made only if both the emperors agree, making them always find compromises to benefit both the sides of the empire.
Big urban centers, both made on land or floating in the sky, can provide much like Breata basically any kind of service, even if the empire' specialty is the production of weapons: the elven steel, a very resistent yet light metal, is the pride and joy of the region, as well as all the artillery developed by the avian Beastfolks, of which they are masters. All ways to mostly defend their borders from eventual attacks, or to be sold to other kingdom in commercial exchanges.
As said Elves and avian Beastfolks form the majority of the population, while there are minorities of any other kind of race, all accepted in the Caelestis Empire.
One of the two regions without an established government. Native land of Fairies and Beastfolks, the Fae's Woodland are exactly what their name describes: a region composed almost only of never ending forests where the "people of the mounds" can live in harmony with nature. Many small villages are located in the woods, each one with their own small government and rules, even if usually always helping one another; the environment is mostly a pacific one, and the people in here try to keep it as it is: individuals of violent disposition are invited to travel to other lands in a way to mantain the peace and tranquility of the woodlands, as just a few of the inhabitants are fighters.
The majority of the villagers of this region specializes in farming and usage of natural medicine, them being the most skilled healers of Grimmoria, bested only by the Merfolks of Azurea.
Last but not least the hardest place to live in Grimmoria: the Barrows of La Flamme. A volcanic desert, in which the inhabitants are subjects of the harsh living environment: second region without an established government, the land of the barrows is structured around small urbanic gatherings; towns are born near the few oases present in the desert, or instead in enormous caves inside the side of volcanic mountains. Blacksmiths are the main source of income of the land, as metal in any shape or form is a basic resource of the barrows, thanks to the volcanoes that offer the right temperatures to work on it. Demons, Minotaurs, Goblins and all other kind of species that are considered "evil by nature" are rumored to be born from here, and many people from around Grimmoirea, fueled by superstition, is usually suspicious of the ones who's heritage comes from La Flamme. Not everyone who's from here is born to be evil, but a belief so much ingrained in the mind of the people isn't easy to erase.
P.S. The names of Breata, Struudal, the Golden Prince and the Crimson Queen are taken from the stories I commissioned to
cheshire_cat_master about the setting itself. A big thanks to him to having helped me in figuring out more of this universe by his awesome writing.
