After night feel, I followed Thunderhoof near a cliffside to where the camp of the slavers that kidnapped the tribe's wives and women.
Said ones were kept in a huge metal cage a bit offside of the camp, awaiting to be packed onto the wagons the next day. I could hear how the members were laughing and talking about the women and what each one would do with the money they'd get for them.
I could feel how the rage in me rose up.
Thunderhoof grabbed my shoulder and told me to get into position.
While scouting the area, he found a place up on the cliff, near a big loose boulder, where one could easily oversee the camp.
I should go up there and push the boulder down the cliff, causing it to crash into the camp. Once that happened, he'd come out of his hiding spot and use the commotion to our advantage while I give covering fire from up above.
Once I was up in position, I checked again to see if Thunderhoof was ready before starting to push the boulder.
It was heavier than I thought, but after rocking it back and forth a few times, it finally went over the edge and tumbled towards the circle of wagons.
All hell broke loose as it crashed into and through said circle, causing it to destroy the campfire too, dipping the camp into darkness.
I quickly drew my rifle and started firing at the panicked men while Thunderhoof charged in. Those poor bastards didn't even know what was going on as they fell one after another.
Soon, everything went silent, indicating that we probably got everybody. However, I remained where I was while Thunderhoof went to free the women, in case there were more hiding somewhere.
Once he brought them away from the camp, I, too, left the scene to go back to our meeting point.
Upon arriving, the tribeswomen were swarming Thunderhoof as he checked on them.
At a nearby tree, I saw a lone woman leaning against it, looking at Thunderhoof like a mother would look at her child.
But she was no tribeswoman. Her hair, her bodily appearance, her clothes, she was clearly a settler.
When walking up to her, she introduced herself to me and told me that she's the wife of the owner of that ranch, which the hotelier directed me to. She told me that she knows Thunderhoof since he was a foal still. His parents were part of another tribe, but said tribe too fell victim to slavers. He fleed and found refuge at their farm where he stayed until he grew old enough to leave and find a new tribe to join. She said that he always had the longing to go back out into the wild. The reason why she ended up as prisoner of slavers was that she and him stayed in contact over the years. And when he told her about the kidnappings, she went to investigate herself. And... yeah.
While the two of us were talking, Thunderhoof walked to us to check on us. At first, he didn't recognize her when he saw her. But he soon realized who she was, and the two of them hugged each other tightly. I left them alone since they probably have so much to tell to each other.
After a while, they went up to me as caught up with each other. Thunderhoof told me that he's gonna take his people back to the tribe's camp while I should take back his adoptive mother back to the ranch. It was a matter of course for me. While she was climbing onto my back, me and Thunderhoof told each other goodbye. He hugged her one more time before we part ways.
