Originally, Hawthorn's story had him wander different worlds (planes) as a monk, which explains why he preferred to dress modestly.

Since then, I've played many different iterations of Hawthorn in many different settings. It's only fair that in some worlds, he decides to ditch his old beloved 'potato sack' and goes for something more fitting! This is his Ouji (princely) fantasy set, which is usually used in worlds where gothic or frilly clothing are more common. He even has a cute walking cane!
