My Easter Bunny form has been a long time favorite character of mine. My “true” fursona. But only seen in the month leading up to Easter and my birthday. With such abilities, I wondered, what would they do the rest of the year… I have an “origin” form that’s my basic white / gold / light pink colors that I use sometimes. Still, I wanted something more fun and fantastical for other parts of the year! That’s when I made my “Nightmare” and “Holiday” bunny forms. And I fell in love with the color patterns of the Holiday one, but I didn’t want it to be exclusive to one time of year either. I also wanted to change the antlers they had.
So I adjusted the design a bit and decided this will be another core fursona of mine. A Wish Bunny! I have some lore for this character, which isn’t necessary for drawing, just my own head canon for how they exist and what they’re capable of.
The Lore
For more than half of their life, Lohlite has lived with a one of a kind curse that turns them into a female Easter bunny once a year. With their iconic small and pink bunny form, they are able to lay candy eggs with any sugary treat inside that you could think of. They would hide them for the Easter holiday so friends and strangers alike could find and enjoy them! This ability utilized a very unique dark matter energy converting organ located between the fabric of time and space; an interdimensional womb.
This powerful organ has existed in a pocket dimension before the “Easter curse” was even finished, created by a dragon scientist with the intent to one day solve world hunger. The organ would harness the vast amounts of dark matter normally out of reach of humankind instead of the finite resources known to the planet. The initial test was simple: have specific biological processes recreate different candy recipes instantly in the form of eggs. Candy is easier to produce than other foods, has a longer shelf life, and would allow the technology to be tested with minimal risk.
This would also allow an artificial “Easter Bunny” to exist. Which the dragon scientist found infinitely amusing after bestowing it as a “gift” to their friend Loh. Sure, they “wanted” to be one as a kid and voiced it as strongly as a kid might… It sure was a surprise to turn into one years later after the form was finished when they reached adulthood. They might have forgotten, but a dragon friend never forgets.
While particularly active during the Easter season, this special organ found less use through other times of the year. Outside of monthly maintenance of course. During standby, it still had access to all the untouched energy of the cosmos. And along with it, a connection to the being it was attached to. Their dreams. Loh’s dreams and wants and hopes. Another form of energy, flowing into it.
Over time, Loh found they were able to lay “other” types of eggs. Eggs that, while still made of candy, had other properties to them. Some chocolate eggs allowed them to temporarily turn others into “Easter” bunnies as well. They also found they could make ones that could give people good dreams, or nightmares. Some could be made to glow. Some could even cure minor health problems. And eventually, some could harness other elements: fire, water… lightning.
The dragon scientist that had originally created this special interdimensional organ didn’t “program” these abilities. While they were clearly not out of the realm of possibility when it was created, it just wasn’t planned. And Loh “seemed” stable still in their Easter bunny form.
Until one night, Loh laid what they later called a “Wish Egg”. At first, it had the familiar candy coating of other chocolate eggs they laid. Until that coating dissolved, revealing a glowing egg with a familiar yet outstanding energy. The insides swirled with the visual complexity of a galaxy. They found themselves “wishing” for more as they held it…
That’s when the energy from the egg exploded.
And was absorbed into their body. Changing them.
Their form didn't change too much, they noticed… Loh was still alive, and was still a bunny. Their base fur color was still white. Their paws were still gold… Although, the usual waving pattern now had particle-like speckles going in and out of their markings akin to the flow of energy or stardust. White particles on the edges of their gold markings, leading to gold particles leading out into their white fur. Their inner ears and paw pads turned light yellow and their nose turned the same pink as their Easter bunny form!
But the change that was most noticeable, was the glowing crystal-like diamonds protruding from their skull. Much like a Jackelope (another once fantastical creature…).
The diamonds didn’t hurt. They were sturdy and gave off the same energy of the egg they had laid. They wished they knew what happened to them… Why did they change? What did it mean?
And then… Another egg. This one didn’t explode, instead, the light inside dimmed when they found themselves immediately knowing the answers to so many of their questions: the egg they had touched was a Wish Egg. Their new diamond antlers, Wish Crystals. They had become a Wish Bunny.
Their special interdimensional organ had condensed the energy of the cosmos into a new special egg that had transformed them into something greater. And in that new, greater form, they gained an ability to make “Wish Eggs”.
But what. Is. A Wish Bunny?
The Wish Bunny
Loh has gained an ability that could match the powers of lesser gods. At first, they thought their powers akin to that of a genie… but found it far more limited and less reality bending.
No, they did not have the same phenomenal cosmic powers seen in books or movies. They could not grant just any wishes either. And they certainly could not grant wishes that harmed the world’s balance. These are more simple, modest, personal wishes that perhaps a trickster god might grant in favor of helping someone else.
Fully explaining the rules, would break the rules… The only way to know if your wish could come true, is to be offered a Wish Egg. And make the wish.
But these unique eggs don't come as naturally or easily as their former candy counterparts. The energy to create them is far greater, so they cannot be infinite or in numbers as great as three for one single person. And some of the energy required to make it come true, must come from both the Wish Bunny granting it, and the person wanting the wish to be granted. This energy from the wishmaker is different from the energy used to make the eggs, instead acting as the catalyst to make the wish take form.
When the Wish Crystal antlers of the bunny glow brightly, they are able to grant a wish to someone with a Wish Egg. But only if they want to grant it. See it fit to be granted. See it as something beneficial to others, while still primarily for the person making the wish. The intent behind the wish is everything.
If a person with more money than they could ever want attempted to make such a wish for more… They might find all of their current riches disappear, granted to others less fortunate. If such a selfish wish to hurt another or steal from someone was made, they might find the wish twisted into their own misfortune. Still alive of course. Maybe Loh has more in common with trickster genies in this area, for those that may deserve it…
But… If someone wished to visit somewhere far away to see a loved one. They might find themselves there in the blink of an eye, with the way back home there when they’re ready. If someone wished they could be in the body their heart has ached for all their life, a body that would reflect outside what has always been inside… they might soon find the person standing in the mirror, being everything they ever hoped it would be. If someone wanted to find something that was lost, and meant the world to them… The world may find a way to have it return to them.
An ability to help others in both modest and magnificent ways. Make dreams of the heart come true.
What would you wish for? I wonder if it could be granted.
The Eggs
Loh’s new abilities come in the form of cosmic Wish Eggs. The energy at the core of these eggs have the potential to add and modify reality connected to one person. This wish could change their body, grant them abilities, move them somewhere, or give certain blessings that could be applied to grant specific wishes.
How this energy works and its real limitations are still a mystery. A transformation may require consumption of the egg. Or the egg might turn into the thing desired. The one making the wish will know what to do once the egg is in their hands.
For Loh, these eggs are laid in the same way as their Easter candy eggs. Being a female bunny after all. But the energy they require takes a toll and can’t be done multiple times in a row or they will change back to their base bunny form. Thankfully, their antlers provide them a new form of privacy: no one can see them lay the egg. Literally, time and visual existence changes for the moment. For the outside observer one moment there is no egg and the next it’s there. More mysterious and less embarrassing that way!
Unlike the colorful patterns of the candy eggs, these eggs look very similar to one another. Holding one might feel akin to grasping a clear crystal with a small swirling galaxy inside of it. The energy is harmless, unless a wish for harm is attempted of course…
Though, Loh still has the ability to lay candy eggs too among several other less energy consuming ones. Such an ability would put any 3D printer to shame. But why stop at a piece of chocolate when you can have a wish of the heart granted?
