Actually you made my point for me. I have a large light in a holster that puts out 1,200 lumens. I's fine for tracking cats in the front yard before letting the dogs out (my neighbor hates when his ferals show up for chow all bloody and mangled) but it's definitely overkill when I'm looking for a small can of tomato sauce in the back of the grocery shelves. I carry a AAA light on both key rings; an O-Light and a $9 MALL*WART special for non-mission-critical jobs.
I do have a 2,000 lumen 3-C cell lightsaber I keep in my car. I've impressed several cops with it, but I can't find them anymore.
