The image above is from my favorite obscure 90s anime “Tall Tales of Hammer Hill”. It’s an absolutely bonkers adult anime about fantasy adventurers taking on stupid quests to pay their rent on time. Like a lot of 90s cartoons, theres loads of classic toon physics thrown in, including a lot of flattening! Like this beefy werewolf that got flattened by two magically cast walls! Sadly, the show got cancelled before its first season even finished due to layoffs. It was poorly received by critics, but its a 10/10 in my heart!

Alright, so you probably figured it out immediately, but there’s sadly no TToHH. It’s just me playing around with zero pen pressure, filters, and blur tools. I really adore the look of cartoons and anime from the late 80s to late 90s and I incorporate some of the style into my work, but this is the first time I’ve really tried to replicate the era. Animation of then was traditionally drawn and was intended to be viewed on a CRT screen or projector. It’s pretty hard trying to replicate that on an LCD screen. But if I was able to fool anyone for at least a second, then I’d consider this attempt a success.

P.S. The Slayers anime comes pretty close to being that bonkers 90s fantasy anime. It’s got anthros too and a lot of cartoony violence but no flattening sadly.
