“Why didn’t we do this inside?” I ask at him.

“Because I needed to know how cold it is during a time we’d be waiting things out anyway,” I hear him chide back at me as he turns around and opens the door to go back into our home.

As he steps inside, Maria seems to be waiting for us and waves. He waves as well as he closes the door.

“How is it out there?” she asks, though his mind isn’t capable of understanding what she said. It’s kind of a peculiarity I’ve found about our condition. My ability to communicate with him increases the closer we get to the full moon, but even though I can always tell what other pokemon are saying, he cannot. Nor can I readily share this information for most of the month. But given the plan it’s simple enough to guess her question.

“It’s rather cold out there, tonight,” he says as he starts taking off his coat to put it up on the rack. “You might want to wear your pants as well this time. Thankfully it doesn’t seem too windy so as long as you two aren’t staying put for too long you’ll probably be fine.”
