The series actually went downhill after A Hero's Tail. Everyone seemed to be completely made over... but that's just me. But I know what you mean. The Insomniac Spyro games were great for me because Stewart Copeland did the music. Epic listening right there...
I haven't completed the first Legend of Spyro as of yet (it got boring and repetitive), but that's how bad I thought it was. Voice acting was probably the only good thing about it, but Sparx talked too much...
