I'm admittedly a real fur fan myself; but I think yarn tails come as close as possible without coming off a real animal's hind end.
As for cost, it all depends on length and width. This one, for example, is going out for $50, plus $10 for shipping and a care brush. Prices, and a bunch of sample pics, are on our Forum, a link to which is on my profile if you're interested : 3
