Island Rainbow, a "My Little Pony":
I colored this at the end of March, 2010, which was my second attempt at inking and coloring via digital means. With this I tried a different method for the inking part than I did with my first color drawing (Clarice the reindeer)- it worked for this drawing, but I've found it doesn't always work with everything. I've been using my laptop as my art computer, and depending on what angle I see the screen at, the colors change slightly, so I wasn't sure exactly how she was going to end up looking on other monitors. I thought her orange coat came out too dark... darker than it appeared on the laptop, anyway. Thought about going back and lightening it some, but decided to just submit it as is. This is another coloring job done entirely by mouse.
As I mentioned in my submission of the original pencil sketch (now in my scraps), I am particularly pleased with how the eye came out- the colors really livened it up with contrast. I also put a lot of detail into drawing the little island icon on her butt, and am very pleased with that, too. I was also dissatisfied with the simple plain "no hooves" look of the MLPs, so I gave her some nice hefty hooves skirted with fur. I see that the ends of the hair on the mane and the tail aren't terminated the best- at the time, I was just thrilled I got them colored, but now as an aftersight, it really stands out to me as something I need to do better on in the future. Overall, I am very happy with how she came out.
