Depends on the location, the jobs and the openings. The college closest to me pays professors around 52.0k Euros. General education pays around 45.5k Euros. The county is 213k people.
But, of course, if you go to Harvard, that'll shoot up to 121k Euros or so.
As an example, keep in mind the tax and cost of living differences between where I live and Cambridge; those 52k Euro salaries would need to jump to 104k Euros to maintain the same standard of living, at least. Then there are local fees and such that aren't in the calculations.
So "Pay more" is one thing. "Maintain standard of living" is another.
