One day out of nowhere, a diminutive lapine took up space on the cobbled main street, but unlike others who had done so, he was no beggar. His manners were exquisite, his conversation intriguing and his vernacular could be described as nothing less than spectacular.
There was never much any problem with his solicitations, and anyone who did bother to try bringing attention to him, were quickly wooed and politely shown the error of their ways.
"Would you care to play a game sir?" He'd say, his lilting voice sweeter than honey. With every new person, if you'd watch him day by day, the same scenario would happen. Most people would say that they're too busy for a game, but as it were curiosity is bound to kill a cat or two if it keeps trying.
"How much to play?"
"No charge, Sir."
"What's your angle?"
"No angle, Sir. Just a game of Luck and Fate."
It wasn't hard for him to reel in the suckers. A paltry compliment, a witty retort, some meandering about the weather. Small talk can get you so far these days.. But I digress. A game of fate is nothing to be taken lightly, for if someone is tipping the scales what you win may be meager to what you might lose.
"Go ahead, pick a card, Sir."
Was just working on character design again, and out popped Valentine. A charming but short, fully grown, adult rabbit who happens to be inconveniently frozen in time in his early 20's while the demon in his hat controls his body. Not completely evil, but not completely good either, Valentine's demon is a true agent of chaos, while all the time keeping the facade of a mere teller of fate.
The luck he gives is real, but he never gives more than he takes, so slowly and carefully over the years Valentine's demon grows, gaining more power... but for what?
