In the many years of his short life, the former bandit now adventurer known as Kokan would find himself desperate to garner the approval and 'friendship' of his peers, even if it was to his detriment. Several times, it was nearly at the cost of his life and freedom. Despite it all, he would smile and endure; smiling through the physical and emotional pain to show he was strong, that nothing could bother him.

Truthfully, it was a lie.

All his smiles were lies.

The terror of being alone outweighed any pain he could have suffered. Any injury, any jeer or barb, he would just grin through it.

It wasn't until he came upon his found family upon his adventures, that he found that he could truly smile.
