Pepep are a species of cave-dwelling gecko-like species. They eat moss instead of insects and need to be around water to help them with shedding as well as to foster the bioluminescent moss that they thrive on. Their larger hands are softer and act much like a snail's eye stocks. They retreat back inside themselves and it helps them figure out how 'big' or 'tight' a space they easily find themselves in.
Despite being near water often they are not Salamanders and are not semi-aquatic. They can't even hold their breath for very long; and will have to come up for air a meager 2 minutes after submerging themselves.
The occasion as to why they would do such a thing is for self protection as they barely have any claws and therefore are not built for fighting. As well as they have no actual teeth, just hardened gums that they use to hold onto the moss with.
Their tongue is ribbed like a cat's tongue to scrape and lick moss off rocks and can even co-exist with a type of turtle-like species that they are well-known to clean the shell of in return that the large turtle-like creatures protect them from most predators.
This species is approx. 4ft tall, and while they do dwell in caves they can and have been seen to leave the caves after sundown; otherwise their large pupils would cause immense overstimulation and hurt them.
If you are to keep one as a pet you would need to keep them out of the sunlight and tropical areas unless you're willing to keep the house a brisk 50 degrees!
These creatures can stand on their hind legs and use their longer arms for balance, maybe even standing as a gorilla if they so choose.
While they can't speak Fluent languages, they can and do speak rudimentary ideas of languages.
Enough to get by; as they are intelligent enough for it but their throats and mouths are not built for 'human' speech.
They breed well and give birth to live young, but do not nurse. The difference between male and female is that males will have bulges at the underside base of their tail, and have hemi-peens.
When introduced to eachother the male will stand up on all fours as 'tall' as he can on all fours(or is it all six?) and then slowly move towards her to prove to her he is not a threat. His tail will drag on the ground to spread his scent as it vibrates quickly. A male wanting to make will gather many pebbles around his nesting area and mating area to make the sound of the vibrations louder and help catch the female's attentions. He will also have been dragging the base of his tail and his lowers around more(As it would have already been done this to mark his territory); to assure her that he is indeed the male and owner of the territory she finds herself in.
They have hard ridges on their forehead and the top of their snouts that they will use to root around rocks and flip them over to get to fresh moss as well as they will rub face scales together to try to entice the female. (Nuzzling)
If she doesn't jerk away or stance up as he would currently be doing to her; he will start to nip at her tail and then make her way up to nip at her lower haunches, her back, and finally her neck where he will latch on and stay latched for the entirety of the bby making. After this, she can choose to remain with him or if she feels his territory cannot sustain herself and their young(they will have 2 pips at a time) then she will travel to a new area or back to her original cavern or territory where she feels safer and where the humidity will be high enough to keep her warm enough for gestation.
RULES: They are an open species and I will give different examples of them but be aware that they are larger species and its frowned upon to breed them with a fully intelligent anthro. Their color patterns are very STRICTLY to remain as Cave Gecko patterns. The pattern used here is from a Goniurosurus, also known as a Chinese Cave Gecko; and these will be the most common color patterns that you will have on this species (with a difference of some hues, melanin, albinism, etc but the albinos and Melanistic breeds are going to be closed because they need to be kept rare. CHEAP raffles will be held for those; so don't fret too much about that. If you're unsure about the types of patterns, I will gather pictures and draw their back and tail patterns for everyone in a simplified chart system that is easy to understand.
They are NOT allowed to have wings
They are NOT allowed to have feathers
They are NOT allowed to be near places like the beach (it hurts their eyes and the extreme heat will kill them)
They are NOT allowed to breed with ferals.
They are NOT allowed to be sold to anyone else.
You are NOT allowed to make money off this species. If you no longer wish to own the adopt you have created/won then I will take it over and put it and any other art up for a free art raffle where someone that desires it will have a chance to get it with a random number generator being used to choose the winner of the raffle.
Anyone caught trying to copy this species without permission and add stuff that are on the no list to 'make it their own original species' to try to sell it will be met with a lawyer, evidence gathered, and if needed, taken to court.
Its a free species with its own restrictions. Please don't ruin it for other people by trying to make money off someone else's work.
They CAN'T be muscle builders. Since they were originally based off types of geckos and cave dwelling species, they aren't known for muscle. They are known for speed, camouflage, and living in cold and hostile, sometimes gassy environments that humans can't traverse without proper masks.
They CAN have frills like an axolotl instead of the fringe of fur if so desired as they are a cave dwelling species.
They can NOT have any type of exoskeleton as an Orthoptera does.
They are common animals so there are no "Angel/Demon" forms. Its nothing special, its a common animal needed to keep the ecosystem safe that can speak and learn.
They CAN glow because the bioluminescent moss they eat.
They CAN be cross bred with different styles of geckos outside of cave geckos to create offspring that are half and half with different color pallets.
They CAN have fish tails.
They CAN have webbed feet.
The 'base' body is a typical gecko, but can be elongated to resemble an axolotl if desired.
They can climb well, but they can NOT stick to the ceiling or climb smooth, flat surfaces.
The CAN change the shape of their hands to what fits them best (with the exception of making them look like wings)
They CAN drop their tails and it not be considered a mutation. (Tails dropped will die but the creature will regrow their tail back slowly over the course of 2 years but this leaves them very vulnerable and males are unable to mate during this time as the tail needs to vibrate against the floor to entice a female.)
They CAN learn to do small tasks but their arms aren't exactly meant for muscle.
They CAN live in gassy areas that would be toxic to humans.
They CAN live in a biohazard swamp/liquids without any adverse effects giving to the body, or offspring. The only thing that happens is the moss around that are will be a different color and therefore they will also have a shimmer effect in their glow change to the color of the moss they eat. So if the Radiation makes the moss red or blue, the glowing sparkles in their eyes an the soft hue of colors that glisten on their skin you will see will reflect that instead of the typical bright green and blue hues represented in this colored sketch.
If you have any other questions then feel free to ask I will always be happy to answer!
