As long as Barsma could remember, he could always see the dead. The city he grew up in had a long and sordid history, and the ghosts and demons that still lingered seemed to haunt every corner. What was once terrifying to Barsma as a child eventually became littler more than a nuisance, and now he works as a private detective, using his ability to further assist in solving cases. Lost cat? It was probably chasing a will-o-whisp, easy to track. Cheating partner? The spirits still lingering around the old apartment will happily share the gossip if it means they have someone to talk to. Murder? It's easy enough to ask the victim who killed them. The supernatural elements of his investigation have left Barsma with a reputation as a bit of a madman, seldom taken seriously by anyone but those the most desperate for help, but no one can deny that he usually gets the job done.

His only companions are Ersai and Honeyclaws, a poor duo of creatures struck by a curse that left them trapped in the same party. People seem to be as wary around them as they are around Barsma, so they tolerate each other's company on that common ground.
