To celebrate pride month (I hope. I don't know if these two are confirmed to be LGBTQ, but everyone seems to think so), here's the two Sonic characters that have gained unexpected popularity upon their debut in the IDW comics (alongside a few wisps).
Tangle the Lemur
Tangle was a citizen of the Eggman Empire who lived in Station Square. A thrill-seeker at heart, Tangle hoped to join the military so that she could explore the world and have many adventures, but she tends to get in trouble with the local authority due to her antics and disregard for the Empire's strict laws. One day, she came across a mysterious yellow creature who looked like it needed help. She offered the creature her help and it lead her to a secret facility. That is where she discovered the Eggman Empire's true nature. The facility housed similar creatures like the yellow one, only in different shapes and colors, all trapped in pods and having their energies drained, turning them into purple, jagged-mouthed versions of themselves. Tangle was horrified and almost didn't notice the yellow creature trying to direct her to one of the pods, containing another yellow creature. Tangle tried to open the pod but by the time she did, it was too late and the yellow creature trapped inside was transformed. Just then, she heard an explosion nearby and she, along with the yellow creature went to the source, where they discovered an army of Eggman Empire Pawns and Soldiers led by two people chasing after a lone wolf accompanied by five more of the creatures. Tangle didn't know what to do but was then surprised when the yellow creature went inside her body and her tail morphed into a giant drill. As if on instinct, Tangle jumped into the fight and managed to rescue that person. Tangle fought off the enemy robots and soldiers, but was blindsided by the enemy's leaders and the yellow creature was forced out of her body. But before Tangle and the mysterious wolf were captured, the transformed creature regained consciousness and went into Tangle as well, transforming her tail into a mouthed behemoth and wrecked a large amount of robots. Tangle used her new power to escape not just the facility with the wolf and the other creatures, but also escape the city as well. Once they are safe, Tangle learnt that the wolf she helped out is named Whisper, and the creatures with them are called Wisps. Tangle learnt that Whisper and her team, the Diamond Cutters, went to infiltrate a facility in the Eggman Empire and shut it down, but they were betrayed by one of their own and that Whisper was the only survivor of the ambush. Tangle felt sympathetic, so she (and the Wisps with them) promised Whisper to remain by her side. They then formed a new iteration of the Diamond Cutters and made it their mission to take down the Eggman Empire and free the world from their tyranny. And they won't be alone...
Whisper the Wolf
A member of a small resistance group called the Diamond Cutters. Whisper and her team were small, but constant thorns on Eggman's side, with their Wisp partners and advanced weaponry created by their mysterious benefactor called "Wispons", they foiled many of the Empire's smaller conquests, preventing him from expanding further. One day, the Diamond Cutters received word of a secret facility that are extracting energy from captured Wisps for the Eggman Empire hidden in Station Square. The Diamond Cutters found the facility and infiltrated it, eventually finding where the captured Wisps were being kept. Unfortunately, they were unexpectedly surrounded by Egg Pawns and soldiers, led by a mysterious masked mercenary hired by Eggman himself. Turns out that their infiltrator, Mimic, had sold them out to the Empire. The Diamond Cutters fought off as many enemies as they could, but they were eventually overwhelmed, with their clairvoyant ordering Whisper and their Wisp partners to escape. Whisper reluctantly complied and ran with with the Wisps in tears, with the enemy in hot pursuit. Whisper and the Wisps ran as fast as they could but she knew that it was only a matter of time before they were captured. Just when hope seemed lost, Whisper was saved by an Eggman Empire citizen who found herself in the facility, with her abnormally long tail transformed into a large drill. The citizen did manage to fight off as many of the enemy robots and soldiers as she could, but Mimic and the mercenary attacked, knocking what Whisper recognised as a Yellow Wisp out of her body. But before their enemies could capture them, Whisper noticed that the citizen was carrying a Purple Wisp in her hands, who then floated out of them and went inside the citizen's body, transforming her tail into a mouthed behemoth and wrecked a large number of enemy robots. The citizen used this chance to grab Whisper and escaped not only the facility, but also Station Square, alongside their Wisp companions. Once they are safe, the citizen introduced herself as Tangle and explained why she was there. Apparently Tangle followed the Yellow Wisp into the facility and she tried to free what she assumed was its buddy, but was too late to stop it from turning into a Purple Wisp. Whisper then explained her reasons for being there, but afterward, she began crying, feeling that her friends, no, her family are gone. Then Tangle did something Whisper did not expect. She promised to be her friend and to always be by her side (and the Wisps seem to share her mindset). Whisper was a little touched by the sentiment and had a feeling that she wouldn't take no for an answer, so they formed a new iteration of the Diamond Cutters together, in honor of Whisper's fallen comrades. Little did they know that they will gain more allies for their battle against the Eggman Empire...
