“ - you hear it?
wolverine reluctantly turned to the swamp witch, lazily chewing grass. Helta's eyes, like two moons - huge and bright, stared somewhere behind Geaidu. the witch herself was all gathered, which only made her look more like a ball of fur, and only the mushrooms and leaves growing from her fur betrayed a living animal in her. Helta's nose moved erratically, as did her ears.
Geaidu returned to the meal, attributing everything to the next eccentricities of her friend. but she did not let up.
- someone screams!
and it was true: this time the wolverine caught a barely audible squeak there, in the thicket, which was hardly touched by the moonlight.
Helttasieni rushed towards the sound, Geaidu hurried after her. for some reason, the fur on her neck stood up.
she caught up with the witch in a stony cul-de-sac, overgrown with thorny grass. the tanuki froze, her ears barely trembling.
- what is this? - hissed the wolverine, following Helta's gaze and stopping at the tiny winged creature. it looked like a month old kitten, but the membranous wings spoiled the whole picture. Helttasieni leaned towards the creature so abruptly that Geaidu didn't have time to react.
- Helta, no way! - wolverine grimaced, shoving her friend back. the tanuki barely had time to sniff the stranger.
- it doesn’t smell, - she muttered and tilted her head in puzzlement, - spirit?
- so... small? is it supposed to take the newly born cubs to the spirit world?
Helta shrugged. she did not take her eyes off the foundling, who was not at all embarrassed by the presence of guests. the creature seemed to be still awake and was swaying slightly.
- ... and what should we do with it?
the witches looked at each other suspiciously.”
