Here we have Vaskag, the Greater Ilsit Drone who, until recently, was assigned to Prirn's family. Vaskag comes from no special breeding or well-established Ilsit family, but what he lacks for in pedigree he more than makes up for in positive attitude and good-natured amiability. Although he is quite large compared to a Human (or even the rest of the Roost's drones), he is a gentle giant. Although Vaskag's role in Cohen-Kline Icosahedron is almost done, he does feature in his own little minor offshoot story which may be later expanded some day.
Greater Drones. in general, come in two varieties; Vaskag is from the second variety, most reminiscent of Land Earth alligators. He is almost 2.5 meters tall (8'2") and close to 10' long (over 3 meters) if you include his tail. Greater Drones have much shorter tails in comparison to their body size than the standard Drones, and are also identified by their much more angular, textured scales. Unlike Drones or Majors, Greater Drones have a plantigrade stance, walking on their entire foot rather than just the balls and toes.
Greater Drones are almost always a dark green, though most have a lighter line green or sometimes even yellow along their abdomen, groin, insides of their thighs, and the underside of their tail. Although all Greater Drones are born as standard Drones, just before reaching puberty approximately 1/3 go through a metamorphosis which takes place over approximately four days in which they molt up to three times per day, eat well over five times their body weight, and grow from Drone to Greater Drone. Individual experiences of this event vary and run the gambit from "discomfort around the clock" to "euphoric burst of energy and strength", and it seems to occur at random among the population, but almost always consistent in its frequency.
Greater Drones tend to be the skilled laborers and physically adept servants among the Ilsit. While neither as adroit as the Drones or as strong as the Majors, Greater Drones combine both to a serviceable level, and tend to be in charge of most activities that require both strength and dexterity. Greater Drones are less common than Drones on Plateau Earth, but far more common than Majors. They comprise approximately 30% of the Ilsit population on Saurian Earth.
The Ilsit race and the character Vaskag are from my Cohen Icosahedron story, available here on FA.
