Sixteen years ago I bought a 1954 Studebaker Commander Starliner coupe, not knowing that the frame had rotted away (as Stude frames do). As time went by I sold off parts here and there, including the 340 Chrysler small-block it came with, picking up a 259 Stude to replace it but never quite getting it together... and never finding the right frame either.
Well, I have a frame. In fact, I have a frame and running motor from a 1956 Golden Hawk - that's a 705-pound lump of a 352 Packard between the suspension arms. Just need to get it home...

The initial restoration work wasn't mine - I'm told it was built by a man who died before the project was finished. There isn't even a proper Hawk shell, just this chassis and some body panels. My job will be putting it all together as period-correct as possible - if my 54 was a hardtop I'd even try to build an actual Hawk, but since it isn't making it look like a period B/Gas dragster will do nicely...
