Those who viewed some of my own drawings of haposaurs may have noticed they have a bit of a resemblance to Yoshies. This is because Yoshies were actually the first characters I genuinely taught myself how to draw. Before there were haposaurs, though, there was another character I worked with who you all may also be familiar with. His name being the very un-original, yet lovable, Baby Yoshi.
Upon learning to draw Yoshies that weren't traced, I developed Baby Yoshi to resemble the BD&A Yoshi plush I ordered from Nintendo's Super Power Supplies Catalog. At the time, I had felt there was little chance of a fellow like me getting into a relationship or ever having a kid of my own to love. So, to compensate for my strong need to care for someone, coupled with anxiety and insecurity, I used a handkerchief to diaper my Yoshi plushie and started doodling little adventures for him that I'd share with friends who I thought may be interested in seeing my cute Yoshi friend.
The picture above is one in which I actually sent Wackko that she was kind enough to re-draw in her style as a gift. This was a very meaningful gesture as she was the first artist friend I ever made to whom I never knew beyond the e-mails and packages we sent each other. Knowing that someone who was not directly affiliated with me could appreciate an idea of mine meant a lot and, well, fueled me to keep pursuing my work to the point where, now, I am sharing lots of fun creative adventures with all of you. Thanks, Wackko!
