I figured this might be a good overlap between furry art and anime fanart!

Cool Vesperia fanart! :D
The painterly technique here works really well with Repede's fur. <3
I wonder, though, if it could also been used on the shading/add little tufts of dirt/rock/grass to have a better idea of him standing on land, even without actually drawing a full blown background, ya know? :D

Hehee that's not a problem! I think at the end of the day, so long as the shading has the same treatment as the doggo, because it looks like it was done with less care than the rest...
Looking at this, I think of the art style for Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (not obsessed at all idk what you are talking about) where they have the big fat brushstrokes in the back instead of an actual background, but it looks more like a larger version of the paint brush that they used to paint the actual character.
With that in mind... I THINK if the edges of the ground were made by the actual brush instead of the eraser, it will help lots! :D
Of course it still goes, that I do love this painterly style and it works soooo well with fur, and the random bits of linearting really does work will with the style: it doesn't look like it's I MUST BE METICULOUS and more like I WILL LET MY TOOLS DO THE WORK and idk, it's very painterly and very visually pleasing. As well as you have really nice movement of the entire character including the chain, it doesn't look stiff at all (I feel like making the chain can easily make it look stiff or too woobly but you got it just right!!!).
I just feel like the ground is like "oh yeah let's add shading on the ground" as an afterthought :))))))))) Compared to the rest, which is done sooooo well hehehe.
