A post for those with a morbid fascination with the inner failing of an artist's tortured psyche or for those seeking some small surcease from boredom whilst awaiting the steeping of the tea.
Pics from top left to bottom right :
Part One - Getting the drawing more righter. 1. October 2012 - A quick sketch jotted down and quickly coloured ( with the then totally unironic working title "Quick Willa" ). Left at this stage ; in 2014 i applied the same idea of an older rounder Willa fitting into her old outfit in the picture "Nostalgia". 2. In June 2022 - In a moment of "Why not?" i noodled around on the old pic with a smudge brush to smooth out the colours and make it look a little more finished-ish. Meh. 3. July 2022 - Saw that she was too unintentionally chibi without enough upper torso and neck ; performed the magic trope 'sawing a skunk in half' - moved her head up and gave her shoulders to cry on.
Part Two - Painterizing June 2023 4. More smudge - the lines must die! 5. Lighting : There is nothing purple in the castle room or hall she is in to give that much purple bounce light ( and Willa here obviously has vast amounts bounce light ). Red roses or flowers would look more like medieval art than pink. She gets dental work for her sharp little teefs. 6. Getting the drawing more righterer - More dental work as her mouf is moved stage left. Her derier is made less bubble-esque. Bright red rose-things prove too-distracting - turn down opacity to mix with green leaf layer. De-saturate too-yellow castle wall in distance. Blur the backgound, slight blur on bushes, touch of blur on edge of stone arch. Fix bow. Fix fix fix. Leave in some awkward bits from the original sketch so that it still looks a bit like the original sketch. Frame it.
It would, of course, been far easier to re-start from scratch, and probably made a better picture, but i have this odd quirk of not wanting to abandon old sketches.
