Heya,
Many of the things we do as a species pertain to our way of perceiving things - so you'd have to wonder a canine would likely find great enjoyment in using their sense of smell to enjoy the plethora of scents available today. Imagine your favorite candle, dinner plate, fragrance in general - to a canine these things would be a million times better and you could not get enough of it. You'd be able to pick out certain aspects of a given scent and enjoy it. Polo here got too engrossed in smelling the best parts of a supermarket, and was the spectacle to a
non-enhanced vomeronasal patron ha-ha.
He's a dopey dog, so his inclination to do dog-ish things is amplified. Along with some other reasons too that have been previously mentioned, but you'll see what I mean by that soon! He's just more feral to put it bluntly. That's also the reason he looks more floofier too, I tried to reflect the more craned neck and wolf-ish fur from his Father.
And if you can't tell, the special aspect of the super-market is now almost on full display. The abundance of animal-esk adornment tells ya a lot - but the following panels should let it be made entirely clear.
Now on a more harrowing note...
I still am at a clash with backgrounds/colors. This panel took me far too long as a result of it. I don't want to set in stone anything that I'm not comfortable with, but if the background/colors keep changing it's jarring for the reader because it doesn't make sense and it's a lack of confidence with me as the artist. Anytime I have trouble with a part of a drawing, I get frustrated and tend to goof off by watching a video or listening to music. So in turn, the distraction captures all my attention and the drawing suffers in both quality and in time to produce. But when I go back to draw, I again get upset and the cycle continues :(
As a start, I just don't watch videos or listen to music anymore while drawing - while the silence is hard to deal with at the beginning I become much more productive as time goes along. It's worth it, I'll reward myself with video essays afterwards :D
As I'm getting into more dialogue heavy scenes, my enthusiasm should pick up for my sanity can only draw so many unique and distinct backgrounds/characters for so long.
School has been kicking my butt too, but it's starting to calm down now. No more excuses!
Thanks for reading -
have a wonderful day.

It's a habit of his, well that's true for every other canine anyways XD
Don't worry, he still remembers - it's somewhere buried deep between his brain but he'll figure it out eventually ha-ha.
We'll soon see, and I'm excited to get into the next few panels as the story progresses and I'm able to showcase more of the lore and stuff :D

Let us hope for Polo's sake, he won't be able to concentrate past his protesting crinkled-up snout XD
Due to a variety of circumstances, I must use products that have no scents at all. So after a long life of this so far, any amount of cologne/perfume has the potential to assault my nostrils and I couldn't imagine what a dog would have to go through for a situation like that ha-ha.

Well I learned a new word today, "vomeralnasal" lol. Looking up the definition doesnt help when it's all in the most scientific jargon but I assume in layman terms it's what helps you smell haha.
On the other hand, not all smells are good so it might not always be welcome having super smell for humans [dogs on the contrary dont seem to mind even bad smells].
I find it cute how he positions his hands. Despite being anthropomorphized [phew, try spelling or saying that ten times] he still shows signs of being a dog at heart in small ways.
Its' interesting how you can draw better in silence as I can't do that. I need music or some sort of noise. It helps me concentrate better, especially music. Maybe you could try different types of music or even some white noise like rain, forest or city sounds.

I heard it for the first time from a book about Dogs/Wolves and the differences between the two. Despite the weird spelling, I think it's a fun word to say :D
Thinking about it, canines/animals In general don't tend to care about scents that we may find abhorrent. In a dogs/wolf's mind the smell of a rotting carcass is one of deliciousness so I'm sure a sense of that idea would transfer over to an anthropomorphic dog in one way or another ha-ha.
Aw, I'm glad you noticed that! I wanted him to resemble a dog moreso than just a dog that looks anthro. Plus his habit of enjoying scents in all their glory helps in that regard. He's definitely a dog at heart :)
I get distracted very easily, if a song so much as catches my attention past just the sound then I can't focus. I like whitenoise stuff, I play some during the night to help me sleep. But if I get frustrated while drawing, the whitenoise then transforms into something annoying to my ears and I turn it off and this causes me to stop drawing :(

I find it a tongue twister lol.
It's interesting isn't it? Animals don't seem to share humans sense of "disgust", at least not in the same way. And anything they avoid is more of disinterest rather than disgust. I do wonder why, must be a whole deep discussion under that topic.
I guess we're not all the same haha, we all have different habits and ways to help us focus.

It's equally hard to spell I find too - just say it over and over again at times and you'll get there ha-ha.
I do find it very interesting, I believe it may be in part because they don't attach meanings to certain things like we do. A dog will dig through the trash and find yummy 'treats' but to us even thinking about picking something out of the garbage bin is an abhorrent thought alone. I'll have to do more research and stuff on it, I just love learning about canines in general :D
I wish I could have music on all the time. I love music so much, but sadly too much :(
