Theyre entitled parents who just became even more entitled grandparents (assumin no other grandkids, maybe i missed mention of some)
If Jess had a problem with it, she wudnt verbalise it bcuz she knows that her parents wud have a problem with her havin a problem with it <.< They know they can impose themselves on their kids bcuz their kids have nvr been allowed to be themselves, not openly to their parents, and have been raised to expect a punishment if they dont do what the parents want... Even as full grown adults like Alex.

I suppose, though we've seen Jess doesn't mind them so much from previous pages (and they have two older granddaughters from Jess and Matt).
I think it's more relaxed though with Matt and Jess? Like, yes, he's relatively awful with Alex and Star but seeing as Matt and Jess fit into Peter's views and wants more, I expect him to be alright with them and tbh their reaction over the grandchild is pretty normal seeing as eveyone been looking forward to him for 9 months. Plus it helps that Jess is an in law rather than a biological daughter.

Are you a child of abuse?
Thats all par for the course. The golden child archetype exists to describe the ppl who nvr have issues with the abusers, the ppl who the abusers wont show their true face to; and who are kept as ignorant of the abuse as possible so that they can act as those ppl excusin the behaviours and insistin "dad wudnt act like that" and similar
The fact Jess isnt of the family is more reason to expect she has no idea the extent to which this family is abusive. The fact she married the golden child also means that she is the least likely to see any of the abuse from the parents here.
But also the thing about the golden child and those other ppl kept out of the loop about the abuse... Theyre there to make the others question the veracity of the claims of abuse; to have ppl who will automatically assume that the "sensitive" members of the family are overblowin it and theyre just not able to tolerate a simple punishment or scolding
When i outed the abuse i suffered from my bioparents, two of my siblings sided with me, both had alrdy gone at least partial no contact with said bioparents of mine; but the other two? They refused to believe me, the THIRD kid of theirs to speak out about the abuse at home and the continuin of such abuse
Those two were the two kids who were always given favoiritism by my biomom. One for bein, at the time, her only daughter (still her only daughter cuz i disowned said biomom; bcuz she is a QAnon believin neonazi, and also the neglect and other abuse, but that was the final straw eventually), and the other for bein her youngest son, and thus her spoiled little baby brat
Neither of them wud believe a word we had to say about the abuse and other horridness. Bcuz, it wasnt what they saw. They saw me as the oversensitive one who cudnt tolerate simply bein told off for not doin smth right and who cudnt learn on my own like they did... They saw me as exaggeratin and hyperbolisin things, and they nvr will believe my truth bcuz theyve been manipulated into the position of golden child
Also, on said little baby brat bro... I do indeed see the connection between his spoiledness and bein protected by said biomom (who btw left me and a siblin with a p--- who hurt us for a decade but she managed to save her little baby from that <.<). Tho the rly hilarious thing to me is that a few yrs ago he reached out to me to ask for info on bein a caregiver bcuz he had a boyfriend who was a Little, and the whole world knows im a Little heh. As much as i hate that he got the golden child role, i have no actual ill will towards him and was gladly happy to help there :3

Yes, I am actually.
And I know what you're going for here, but tbh we haven't seen enough of the outside family beyond a few screenshots to automatically assume WHAT Jess's relationship is with her family. You can't really give me the "golden child" speech when you yourself don't even know the full details of Star's family, as well as what baby star's said.
But also Star's story and family isn't yours. What happened to you can't be used as a base for this comic and I'm not going to assume that Jess - an adult with her own opinions - isn't aware of it, you can still love and tolerate people who are awful, even if it isn't healthy for you, which is smth Star is currently in right now.
Peter is abusive and awful, but on the current page and moment - which I'm making my comments on - he's simply being normal. I AM expecting smth to happne later on, but I don't want to spend every page basically ranting about how he's an abuser and not appreciating and speculating the current events of the comic like almsot people are.
And like, I know you connect really fucking strong with Alex and Star in regards to their dad (you've been commenting the same type of stuff for three weeks now ever since the call) but tbh I would appreciate it if you didn't feel a need to reply to almost everyone's comments regarding the situation about your own life or you needing to explain that Peter's an abuser to every comment. I'm capable of acknowledging it and still being able to comment on other things without it being a main focus.

Jess in a daughter-in-law so hasn't been brought up by Lily and Peter. She gets on quite well with them, though she has had to bite her tongue on more than one occasion with Peter, but her and Lily get on really well.
Jess's relationship with Lily and Peter is pretty similar to my relationship with my in-laws, where my mother-in-law is amazing but my father-in-law I struggle with as he's quite racist and very anti-scottish and what with me being scottish..well... yeh...nuff said.

I'm still waiting for the hammer to drop! So if it isn't Alex, or Star's parents already seeing the flier and Matt's gone... then my guess is while everything is all peaceable, then the oldest and fastidious brother is gunna come in and "muck" everything up... or the subject of Alex will come up... possibly from Peter thinking everything is all hunky-dory with Star and the "whole" family and saying as much.
... Or, y'know, some feral geese could somehow waddle-wander into the hospital, but I find the chance of that happening to be around only 75%.

I don't find it weird that her dad and mom are so proud of the grandson and calling him perfect. I think that's just typical grandparent behavior, like that's exactly how I've heard my parents talk that way about my nieces and nephews, and my friends' grandparents talk about them, and so on. To them, this a good day and they get to celebrate a new grandchild, instead of focusing on the wounds of the past.
Its quite interesting as an experiment isnt it. Like people know some of peters personality from other parts of the comic so they can read what he says and feel angry. Yet if this had been...lets say for example, Nana Cleo who just oozes motherly affection and love for everyone, saying that. People would be celebrating alongside her.
I just cant envision Nana Cleo sayin "Come see how perfect our grandson is" (or our son or any other connection for that matter)
I cud see smth where she says "He was born perfectly healthy" or similar tho, which i get why folks say it; even if i dont like it myself, as a disabled person who wasnt born perfectly healthy.

That's the strange thing about grandparents...They have a different relationship with their grandkids as opposed to their actual children...I don't know what it is, but they often seem nicer to their grand kids than they were to the ones who sired them. Like...This seems to be the case with damn near every person I know. Even their grandparents weren't abusive or perhaps did a decent job at parenting in their own right, they still somehow seem to be more caring when it comes to their grandkids. I wish I knew why. Let me tell you...My grandfather had a troubled relationship with my father to the point where he wouldn't even speak to him directly for a whole year....Yet, he seemed infinitely tolerant of my weirdness. Hell he never even complained about the music I listened to.
Personally dont see the chats fuss over the parents here, it's a happy ocassion dispite the scare. Boasting about how perfect the newborn is is normal.
All i see thenow is a family haveing a normal moment, with some of the useal banter between the old yins there in the first panal, love it ^_^.
We're only gona see if anythings wrong with this scenario with the next page or so, keep in mind for all his faults Star still loves her dad. Cany go makeing him to be the enemy when Star clearly dusent want that to be the outcome ^_^

Bcuz we know the parents are abusive...
And we arent makin Star's dad the enemy; he did that when he abused and neglected his kids, even as grown adults... As shown with Alex.
And i dont actually think Star still loves her dad as much as you assume... She has nvr once vocalised ANY love for him in the comics, and im prty darn sure how he treated Alex was an eye opener exp for her, even if she hasnt yet understood all the ways his abuse hurt her

Star has actually vocalised the fact she still loves her dad, in the fact that she hates the fact she still loves him. (in this page here but its the super heavy one, bottom panel https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35846233/ )
If she didnt love him she wouldnt have pretty much dropped everything to rush over to the hospital thinking he was sick.
Its probably more of a stockholme syndrome kinda love but its still a love nonetheless

Its exactly what i wud expect from the kind of person who thinks bein gay is wrong and deservin of a sucker punch even to ones own adult son
Honestly, the bigotry is nvr isolated to one path of bigotedness... So i very much exp some ableism in there on top of the homophobia and misogyny, if not other forms of bigotry as well

My father never hit me with a belt but sometimes kick me in my shanks or slaps behind of my ears and got periodical rages. I can partially forgive him because he got a so difficult childhood, as a young adult. He lived stuff that I don't want to say now, here.
He took care of me and my brother more than my mother, bring us to medical visits (a lot, for anything), bring us to the school, clean and ironed uniforms, cook and a lot of things, really are looking for rising children.
He only is so broken.

Yes. Sounds familiar. My grandfather was a holy terror, and my father was a hard man, and not emotionally there.
Times were different and the period over two world wars and a economic depression in the states, required hardness to survive.
I didn't think so at the time, but seems like each generation is getting better.

"perfect grandchild" is just like agh
Every grandparents have their favorites, also is like an expression to put social force into Star, is like over here where my narcissist mother start to put pressure on me to get a boyfriend and have kids, even she knows I am into abdl and do not want kids, hah.
Over here in one side of my grands, I adore my grandmother but she died when I was 7 and her couple died when I was 10.
While the other side, my grandmother discriminates me by my skin color, while my grandpa totally ignores me, he just watches tv all day.

Am I the only one who doesn't get why Peter's statement about "perfect grandson" was received that poorly?
We know he was a terrible father, but that statement is fairly neutral, just a proud grandfather.
It would be preferable if he had the same attitude towards his children (being perfect by merely existing) but that's an argument for another page
By the way I love the fact that Star plays with her braid when she's nervous

I believe that is a bit of a stretch. Just because you praise your grandkid for being perfect doesn't automatically conclude that disabled (grand) children are imperfect. It could also simply be that the kid is very precious (which they all are)
Again. Not defending Peter as a character but I don't get malicious intend from this sentence

Its not that ppl mean to say such things, but that is the harm such language has; regardless of intent
Ppl dont call disabled or intersex children perfect when we are born bcuz we dont fit the idea of perfect "ten fingers ten toes" and similar such logic
Folk can cause harm with their words without any ill intent

Everyone reading so far into the comments about the grandchild. Like...I'm almost laughing because that's the reaction for almost every baby to ever come into my family.
That's right. They're _ALL_ perfect. All of them. "Come and see them! They're so perfect!"
It's not meant as a literal thing. Like "This child can do no wrong." and is really more of a pejorative "They're so cute and small and are just precious right now".
It's in the same category as family telling a little kid/baby they're 'so cute I could eat you up!'. They're not literally going to consume the child for pities sake.
Although Peter does have that perfectly smug face that makes me want to throw a box of Kleenex at the back of his head and then pretend I don't know where they came from after he gets bonked. XD
