I was haulin' hay, I was feedin' the hogs,And that summer sun had me sweatin' like a dog,So I cooled off in the creek and it was back to work,In that dead-gum heat,I was cussin' out loud, thinkin' 'bout quittin',Lookin' back now, I'm sure glad I didn't,'Cause just when I thought it couldn't get no hotter,I caught a glimpse of the farmer's daughterShe stood there leaning against the fence, told she was home to visit and would be seen helping out. Heart was in my throat. I got back ta'work, she was on my mind. Every chance I tried ta help, it never ended well. She'd snap at me, bare her fangs- pearly white -Snarl and send me on my way. I was down, but not out. She was taller, so I tried to impress her, caught one of the bulls barehanded. I was grinning when I noticed she was watching, it didn't turn out well, but I got her attention. I would often catch her work'in the animals to accept riders and work equipment. It was something else, like she could whisper to'em an understand what was needed. I understood she didn't need help, or someone to do it for her. She was more then capable, that's what lead to her ask'in for help one autumn evenin'. Had traps that needed tending, hauling back the kills and cleaning them. I was excited, made an even bigger fool of myself. It was alright as I heard her laugh. It went from there- ~Lucky LoverAltAlt 2Alt 3Hokori
