MALAKAS Project - Billy Marlin
If you wish to know about the MALAKAS Project, go to Timothy Soro's entry here for more info about the project.
Description:
Billy Marlin was a natural-born comedian, who hailed from the Floridian capital, Miami. Clark Cubblestein was born the youngest and the friendliest of these three, despite coming from the crime-ridden neighborhood in Chicago. And the Phillie Phanatic was the legally-unnamed bird-like creature who flew from the Galapagos until he crashed into the US city of Philadelphia. These three would eventually grow up to become competent players in baseball games throughout the 2000s and then became the mascots of their respective teams.
One day however, after watching the 2022 World Series of Major League Baseball, many recruits in the mountain base (who were also baseball fans) were displeased with its conclusion, especially when the loss of Philadelphia Phillies to Houston Astros. Among rare kinds of requests given to the MALAKAS Project supervisor Christopher North, the said recruits demanded for the physical enhancement of the Phillie Phanatic. Although Chris was less interested in baseball than in Cricket and Polo, he relented and privately met each mascot player, as well as their coaches and managers in a whole week.
Eventually, the three mascot players came around and by next week went alone to the city of Santo Tomas in California, where they met in a local baseball field and had a chat together, expressing to each other concerns about the MALAKAS Project. They also added that any of their fellow players, coaches and managers were conditionally discouraged from accompanying them due to potential risks of exposing the project further to the world. After agreeing to keep their concerns to themselves, they rode the bus to the mountain base a mile away, where they would be greeted by elated recruits (also genuine fans of three baseball teams), who were hoping to see them turn into Super Soldiers, and even possibly Juggernauts, the very idea that left the trio disturbed. Chris himself, although not fond of bringing well-known sportsmen into the project, brought them into the mountain lab to give them some comfortable space and a persuasive chat.
Even the project's higher-ups were opposed to bringing these mascot players, fearing that not only would it bring exposure to the world, it would also invite tension of envy and unsportsmanship between relevant baseball teams, especially outside the official games. Furthermore, it could affect teams in other sports as well. But because many recruits were already in favor of having mascot players and because even a single recruit was powerful enough to impose authority in this current environment, there was nothing the said higher-ups could do.
Initially, the three mascot players agreed to train inside the mountain lab, as they were still afflicted, but as weeks came by, one by one, they started to go around the base and became content with recruits willing to have a selfie or even help them in training. However, it was worth noting that each of them had actual weaknesses, such as Billy (being a fish) having to heavily rely on water bottles or pouches in order to survive, Clark bearing a fear of firearms due to having been frequently trapped in unexpected gunfights before, and the Phillie simply speaking in broken English. During such development, Billy had weaponized his lifetime source (water) into a temperature-based spray cannon (which could shoot boiling water, freeze ray or somewhere in the middle), Clark had turned to an alternative of a pistol for a deflective armor set and a pair of iron baseball bats, and the Phillie had bought a small arsenal of sonar weapons (ones loud enough to shatter glass windows).
Satisfied, the three mascot players accepted numbers of selfies and autographs from recruits around the base, all before they could catch onto the bus to return back to their respective cities. But before their departure from San Francisco airport, the three spent time together for few days, wanting to have fun to themselves alone. Despite their unique weaknesses, they felt more than confident to take on the games.
Naturally, players, coaches and managers were shocked to see their respective mascots in new yet intimidating shape, but the latter three were immediately discouraged from joining the games, out of fear that any of their direct participation could stain their future chemical tests and could hence bar three teams from joining the next tournament. Of course, the three mascots, and even their fellow players, felt dashed over superiors taking away their opportunities, although for the justified reason. Consequently, their arrival sparked quick attention from mainstream news, and just as the project's higher-ups were anticipating, tensions blew up right among the baseball teams, and even those of different sports, now wanting to join the MALAKAS Project.
