It's a little amazing how fluidly some species of birds translate into punk-aesthetic character designs. I think it's the feathers, personally -- the wild, unconstrained look of the plumage of a vulture's ruff or a secretary bird's crest looks like a countercultural hairdo, both in detail and in a simple outline.
