So I haven't been uploading art stuff for a while, yeah? I aren' 't' dead! Just mostly been practicing upon the twin electric drills chipping away at the remnants of my sanity that are Blender and Substance Painter. The proceeds of which are going to equip a Secondlife group, for those three of you who still care about SL. This one was inspired at least initially by a UNA TACARM from the old AT-43 tabletop, with a healthy dose of the Jacket from Edge of Tomorrow to account for the backpack mounted weapons.
Ironically this might actually help quite a bit with future 2D work. Might have to try my hand at that again soon.
Anyway!
Here we have a suit of Myrmidon Mk.1 Mod.0 Active Armour, soon to be in service with the Colonial Defense Foundation. Intended to compliment their existing mechanised forces, the Myrmidon bridges a gap between dismounted infantry and mobile tracked or articulated protection, being capable of utilising standard sized weaponry, cover and emplacements. In particular focus was placed upon the need a sealed combat suit to deal with combat on the Jovian Moons front, the harsh environmental conditions of which exceeded the capabilities of standard pressure suits to acceptably tolerate.
The Myrmidon is rated to protect against 20x102mm rounds across the frontal arc, with protection against 12.7x99mm rounds from the sides and rear. Every articulation is power-assisted for maximal mobility, although a full range of dismounted motion is not possible. The system is fully enclosed and capable of operating in a variety of atmospheric and gravitational conditions, in hard vacuum or whilst submerged up to 100ft of water. The visor can be opened in an emergency, or when out of combat. Powerpack lifespan under normal conditions is 72 hours between fuel cycles.
As standard the system comes equipped with smoke/AP grenade dischargers, as well as a 25mm payload gun and five-shot launcher mounted on swing-up rear armatures. These can be substituted for automatic grenade launchers at need. Mounting points also exist for a mag-assisted pile bunker on the left forearm, but these have not yet been field tested.
