"I am the Lorax, I speak for the Trees.
Stop disrespecting Luna, or a break your knees."
p.s. Truth is, I get it. But we gotta have faith. If we could see their potential, we might choose them too. Especially since everyone else she's chosen has ended up dead so far. Let the degenerates try to save the world.

Considering the leader of the chaos has lost his faith and kills the faith others have? I question the validity of your statement. Anyway...
One way, they fail and the realm is down a few troublemakers.
Another way, they succeed and the chaos is gone.
Results both ways.
You lack faith. :3

Because Luna sees the potential Nigel has, and believes that the one-two punch of blindness and becoming a Knight will be such a shock that it will lead him to break free from his grudges, and allow him to become what he could be. And, in the process, help the others to save them all from Chaos.
The guards that captured him would've been the first ones to chat about it during break or after their work period ended.
And given that The Tree seems to not favour long working hours for her servents, I'd imagine there would've been plenty of time passing since the guards shifts ende for rumours and news to spread.

Hehehe everyone's loosing their shit. xD This is going to be so awesome to see how these newly knighted knights deal with the great responsibility of saving their world. ^^ Especially given their initial "shortcomings" like lack of sight, size, shyness and so on. I think the whole idea here is that chaos cannot be beaten with violence and strength because that's where the chaos is the strongest but in other attributes it might be lacking quite a bit which is where these "unusual" knights come in with their unique characteristics to attack those exact weakspots. ^^ I look forward to see where this is going. =)
I see this, it's an adventuring party. They all have their strong sides, working together they will win.
Leader, fighter, alchemist, thief, assassin. And most of all, they all have a heart of gold, some a bit stained and they all need to learn a lot. But the original guardians were all similar to these guys just further in their personal progress.
I bet all the previous guardians all had these kinds of personal struggles, but due to it being relatively quiet in those times, they had the time to work on them uninterrupted.
Now, they need to do this, they have to learn on the way.

Although I have some doubts about whether blinding him would be helpful as a knight, I am certain there is some meaning behind the decision, cause sending a blind person on a quest like this isn't the most logical of decisions. He may be able to regain his sight later on thanks to Luna, or some other factor that comes into play later on. Regardless I am very interested to see what happens next.
The neat part is that it is neither a punishment nor a reward, as the person asking asked. It says so much about the state of things that the public believes that this is an honorific position and not one that is essentially sacrificial, considering what they are supposed to be up against. Also find it quite funny Nigel finally got what he wanted, but it's clear the position doesn't exactly seem to be on his mind now, also glad to see Toby to, clearly he's not exactly all smiles when it comes to Nigel's condition. As for Tristan, you'll see your worth soon buddy, just give it some time.
Watching how the characters' expressions and responses change through this entire scene is also very enjoyable to watch.

I would guess even Leo and Lynus starts to have some doubt at this point... Gotta bet the firsts knights doesn't seem anymore so unfitting as candidates... The only one sincerelly worried about the beggard seem to be his little brother, who may had deserved a spot in the team too, seem like knight material to me...
Its pretty clear to me that the Tree gave him a gift, not a curse. That him seeing with his eyes was not the point, that there's either some kind of magical talent, or innate tendency for him to be able to see differently, through magic somehow that would let him be a valuable key to what goes into it. Blindness is often stated to amplify other senses, even though there's little scientific evidence for that claim, its often very played with in fiction. Daredevil is a great example of this, the accident that made him lose his eyesight gave him hearing so great he could hear heartbeats from hundreds of feet away. I'd bet that this is going to lead to him getting some valuable trait that will make him eventually figure out that normal eyesight wasn't necessary for him to become worthy.
As for what form that would take, that I'm at a loss on.

I had a thought; I don't think we should 100% trust Luna. Yes she has been portrayed as this angelic figure but she is the "Tree of Life." And while life itself can be good for some it can also be cruel.
We have phrases like "life is unfair" and "life's a bitch" for a reason. Also life is in itself a chaotic thing so she might be somehow linked to the chaos. Obviously its not all bad as we do have 'life is good" as a counter.
While I don't think Luna is secretly evil, I also don't think she is entirely good either.
I'm probably wrong on this but I'd still view Luna with some caution.

Two children of the Goddess who received the status "by pull" and not by talent, two criminals straight from prison, besides, one of them is a cabbage dwarf, and another one is generally blind. In principle, I can understand why the inhabitants of this world are "a little annoyed" ^3^. They looks like heralds of the end times. :3
At least from the perspective of the crowd, this is almost certainly accurate.
It is very much the end times, and they are indeed its heralds, but I will dissent: Mira and Chili definitely have inherent talent and are not Knights by mere status or proximity to Luna. What they lack is skill and discipline and experience, having had things relatively easy. I expect many failures and near-misses before they get it right.
Leo is Leo. He likes to hit things. Really hard. Not exactly Knight material from the crowd's perspective, but his heart is in the right place at least.
Tristan is one thousand percent the Heart of the group, or prospectively will be. I see him as a meeker variation on a Robin Hood archetype.
Nigel is a complex mess. A prospective Seer (the blindness, temporary or otherwise, is delicious irony in so many ways) whose abilities will be essential if he can get his head out of his own arse and learn a touch of humility and compassion.

Anyone get the feeling Nigel is going to tell them to "Shut the Hell up and actually Do something" to the audience? I mean, they basically are throwing double-sided comments that both Insult and Pity Nigel, and are basically throwing Slurs at Luna.
Remember, Nigel hates the cards he was given, yet also hates being Pitied, it is why he acts so abrasive... Yes, He is a bloody paradox, but what else has he got?
That being said, I feel he is going to mouth off at Luna immediately afterwards... And do so while pointing the wrong way because he is blind.

Well this is logical, since any other traditional approach failed. But, no offence, it's kinda vanilla trope to me, like any other typical team of goofballs on their way to defeat unstoppable forces of evil because all pros were wiped out effortlessly... yeah.
Honestly, I humbly hoping that all of this is a secret plan of Mr.Chaos - break your counterpart's morale, then trick them to make the final mistake by their own hands. Would be way more interesting to watch how they gonna reverse that kind of disaster.

From what I understood, she always wanted him to be a guardian. He seems to have some real powers (maybe clayorance) because of how Luna was talking about how his nightmares weren't just nightnames. Problem is that she screwed him over by not doing anything to mediate his situation with his parents and simply allowed him to live on the streets as a little kid, despite the fact that she did play favorites and picked someone to raise as a daughter on her own.
She simply ran out of time expecting Nigel to because altruist on his own and is forcing the role on him regardless of his current mentality

Ahh the exotic chaotic breakfast Club.
Miracle - The Prep/spoiled kid
Leo - The Jock
Chilli - The Nerd
Tristan - The Socially awkward kid
Nigel - The Delinquent
Lmao
This will be one hell of an adventure and coming of age story for sure. Because for the good of the people this rag tag group of mismatched and opposing personalities will need to come together the vanquish chaos and their forces.
I'm not going to claim to know the Luna's intentions not outright agree with them. But an effort is better than silent abstinence and letting chaos roll offer everything. The outcry right now will be large but I'm sure the end goal will be a blessing.

Well, theres the expected reaction. I still hold my bet chaos will be attracted to the crowds anger and attack this place like a homing beacon was placed. Whether or not luna will have planned the deaths to force piety, while i dont doubt it could be, i still hope is not rajhans secret truth about her.
Well, all this was expected.
Personally, my bet for the next:
After a particularly virulent diatribe, Luna slaps Nigel (the kind of thing that only happens once by century) and replicate:
"Shut the fuck up! You already blind enough before I did it. You had everything you needed to become a Guardian, but you couldn't see it and your miss it. So if you want to see again, you'll have to do it like a true one: you'll have to see with your heart. Now, get in the line with the others Knight!"
*and after that, Luna come back to a sweety voice in front of a very quiet audience*

The Tree of Life has already stated that she has foreseen who would become Knights. She knows and has known the internal strength each of the new Knights possess. What she sees is not something that others can easily see. She tried to guide Nigel from a very small age, she knew then his potential. He was unwilling/unable to see it himself so she had to 'speed up' that process.
Now all that is left is to see if the Tree of Life's visions and decision are correct. The die has been cased and rolled.

Totally looking forward to the next few pages!
Will she pull out a big convincing argument?
Will she face the warth of the crowd?
Will this wrath of the crown be showed unto the backburner while our ragtag of misfits are showed into the next part of the adventure?
Regardless, I am looking forward to see where stuff goes.
A trait of good character writing is making characters beleiveable, and oh boy is The Tree scoring on the unpopularity points in the story and in the audience.
I love her, and I love how you have written the characters so far!!!
You are doing a great job!

Everyone has a role to play in the final part of the story whether it be a big part or small. She has chosen them for a reason and it must be because they have a big part to play yet in this story. There is no way to know what she has seen in them all yet but she made the choices with what she had seen. I'm anxious to see what happens next and how all of their fates will play a part in what is to come. I'm excited to see what happens next.
I do know when Tristan got his place I knew deep down why as there is no more pure and honorable heart than his. He has a heart of gold and a lot of strength in that heart to turn out as wonderful as he has with how hard his life has been.
But much like Tristan there is a reason why each of them were chosen and maybe we do not know all of the reasons fully just yet. But that's what makes for a compelling story is you do not know what is going to happen or fully why yet....but you want to keep reading as you feel compelled to find out. That is great writing when you can achieve that.

oh the anteci... ....pation.. on whatever the tree will say next that may or may not bring light to those choices.
maybe it is a great potential others can not see... maybe it is potential without direction, and thus direction was given....
..or maybe the tree saw a glimpse of the future, with them working as one, yet the path to get there is more faith then far sight.

I find it awful that they never seemed to have blamed Nigel’s parents for turning Nigel into a homeless troublemaker.
I still hope Nigel has the best ending, and his parents end up suffering for what happened to him. And I hope Toby has a chance to talk to Nigel, even if Nigel doesn’t want to talk to him.

Imagine being one of the other guardians, training your whole life and devoting yourself to the service, and then when the call for this extra special role goes out, you watch Luna promote the ones she personally cared for and then two criminals completely uninvolved in the organization.
I'm enjoying the story and curious where it's going, but there were probably better ways to get the main characters involved with each other besides "fate says so."
