I guess best time to dump a little lore update on those two

Lore wise, Captain Rachel is still the same, being this important secondary character for Laya. Being a well known pirate, whose adventure are counted into tales for young children's.

In her 20s she encountered a young Laya in need of help, has our poor green lizard gal was constantly bullied, and her family was not treating her well. She gave Laya a serious moral boost and a temporary mother figure to look up finally, which will help Laya support those hard years before finally joining the Army and later Abyssal to distance herself from her real family, accept her lack of features and prove herself to the world.

However, this will not be the end of Captain Rachel relationship with Laya, has many years later, once Laya is finally well suited in Abyssal, they will both met again during vacation. Rachel being 35 years old and Laya in her 20s at that time, the once mother figure and idol to the little green Lizard, might become a love interest, has this meet up turned out to be more emotional than usual. This will later on cause Laya to gradually change her point of view on her, from idol to actual love partner.
