I have been meaning to post this for quite a while but I would like to introduce a new OC of mine: Bowen. He lives in the same fantasy realm as the rest of my "fantasy" characters. A huge thanks to Lunarez for helping me make this characters sheet. https://www.furaffinity.net/user/lunarez/
Name: Bowen of House Artanis
Species: Deer
Gender: Male
Age 22
Orientation: Straight
Profession: Former Knight of the Forest Realm under Lord Arranoc. Now roaming knight errant/ knight for hire
Strengths: Skilled horsemen and lancer, proficient swordsman, true to his word and willing to think outside the box to complete a task.
Weaknesses: Due to his forced exile from his homeland, he is unable to call upon the financial resources of his Noble family and can be slow to trust others sometimes. Stubborn to a fault in occasionally pursuing hopeless causes for little reward.
Background:
Bowen was the second son born to the Noble House Artanis. Their house is one of the few "honorable" houses left in the forest realm despite their monarch Lord Arranoc's tyranny and corruption. Due to disagreements with their Lord, House Artanis has fallen from hierarchical standing withing the realm's court, but still maintains it's status as a noble house due to it's support of the common people and it's historical significance as one of the clans who helped found the forest kingdom. Regardless, they still stand guard from their minor castle hold on one of the kingdom's borders, ruthlessly dispatching raiders and bandits, while also ruling with fairness offering aid to the peasants under their care when they can.
This is the world Bowen was born and raised in. He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a knight and uphold the code of honor and chivalry, like his father before him. As he aged he grew to be a very skilled horseman and jouster, but was constantly denied from knighthood despite his family's petitions for it due to Lord Arranoc's bribery and threats during every counsel vote. He got his fair chance when Lord Arranoc announced a formal Jousting contest where the winner would be knighted. Lord Arranoc and Princess Amanda couldn't help but sneer in detest as Bowen prevailed against all odds, even with the corrupt Lord trying to rig the tournament. He was forced to grant Bowen his knighthood or force forfeiting a large loan grant from a visiting monarch, but he would ensure Bowen would not hold his status for long.
Only a few weeks later, Bowen was tasked with accompanying Princess Amanda as she led a castle garrison to put down an uprising in a local village. Upon seeing the approaching soldiers, the rebels and their families fled into a temple for sanctuary. Princess Amanda evilly snickered as she sent her men to barricade the temple doors shut and ordered Bowen to set fire to the temple with the rebels still inside. Bowen adamantly refused to kill innocent women and children, earning him a swift beating from Amanda's bodyguards and arrested. He could only watch helplessly as the people were burned alive inside the temple. That very night while the garrison camped inside the now unoccupied village, Bowen was secretly freed from his captivity by a remorseful old soldier, given his weapons and armor back as well as a swift horse he could escape on. Bowen swiftly road home and told his father everything. Fearing for his son's safety, Bowen's father reluctantly told him to flee the kingdom, lest he be forced to watch his son hang for standing up to injustice.
Life in exile has not been easy for Bowen though, he quickly learned that "honorable deeds" for charity and relying on the goodness of others wasn't a viable way to live. He now roams the land doing quasi-mercenary-work at times and living by his own code of honor and chivalry, regardless of what the rules of the local lords may be. He will perform acts of charity when is suits him but will often barter his skills to people in return for a hot meal and a safe place to lay his head at night, or preferably, for coin. "Chivalry and charity won't feed my belly, repair my armor or shoe my horse." he has been heard saying. But he secretly hopes to one day return to his homeland settle the grudge between him and the Arranoc family, one way or another.
