entities can reside in any object, even something as simple as an earring. metal object tend to be prefeable, hard to break them. breaking its resting place (which practically serves as its "body") can kill a weak demon, a stronger entity may be able to flee into a different object (or body, bodies are just meaty objects).

the summoner can call it by different means, Gerard here is experienced enough that he needs no seal or special ritual to call his leech demon. just sorta pokes it awake.
