These two are angels. Lawrence hate deeply Demons, he wants them all dead.
But he's struggling with his feelings for Claire and see that as a holy trial for him. He must not fall for her. But at the same time, he knows she's a good person. Way better than him. Probably not dealing with so evil thoughts.

Claire is totally in love with Lawrence as well, in a more genuine way probably. She's a very shy, loving and sweet person.
She's actually very worried for Lawrence. She can tell he's in an internal battle all the time.

He can be really harsh with her, but she also knows he would protect her no matter what.

That's the type of relationship that you can call "well, it's complicated"
