It's bad enough to imagine my Maia dying, but so much worse to imagine it happening like this. Even if a work like this can't begin to compensate for that, it must be an incredible solace for the people you gift this to. It's a wonderful thing you do.

I've read that emergency agencies are tending to understand now that it's worth taking pets along in evacuations, if not for their own sake then because a fair number of humans will refuse to evacuate without them. I've occasionally wondered if I'd choose to stay and take my chances with my dog rather than leave her to her fate. I rather hope I would.
