For Gladys, who died in the 2021 Marshall Fire in Colorado. I wish I could have done more portraits for free, but after weeks of painting and sobbing I had to step back. May they all rest in peace.

The fact you did portraits for free at all for grieving owners who lost their friends practically makes you a hero in my eyes. You gave these folks a gift they'll treasure forever in the wake of such tragedy. I know they pain of losing an animal far too soon, albeit not in a fire, so I can somewhat imagine their perspective. Even though you couldn't possibly get everyone, that's okay. If it were me, I'd just be happy for those who did and keep you in mind for a memorial to my pet when I could afford it... after all, of any artist, you would be clearly deserving of the business after what you did for my fellow community members. Hypothetically, of course, since I don't actually live there. You did a great thing.
This is an amazing portrait, too. Such a beautiful pup gone too soon.

i know this feeling too, i lost my pet dog yestarday, to stomac cancer.
right after i came home from my vacation, the vet had to put her down.
:( was not able to do other things, other to make sure she was at least happy in life.
that was the last time i ever saw her again.
