I take inspiration from the original hippie movement of the 60s. I admire the message of peace and love, which I want to carry into today's world. Here in the 21st century, people are still fighting with each other and expressing hatred all the time. The deer in this drawing represents me, an LGBT man, if I was a hippie back in the day. The antlers represent my transman identity and the lines that pass over me are my life journey. The purple color is me breaking apart the expectations of men (blue) and women (pink). And showing that the human consciousness is so varied between us all. Like nature, humanity's differences should not be controlled or destroyed. The bends in my path above the antlers are the unfortunate ridicule and degradation I have faced while just being me. It's been years now for me since these bad times. But the pain I went through is still out there in the world. I see it being directed toward other LGBT people. Horrible misconceptions are made about us, we are made into a laughing stock, things are becoming far too complicated and dark in this world. Just as I admire the hippie movement, I admire their desire for a simple and conflict free existence, focusing on kindness to others and having fun.
