(NMA) Reference Sheet: Sebastian the Horse
Normally I can't really set aside the time for myself to reupload my commissions to my own gallery very frequently, and I also realize that I was already in the process of resubmitting a different sequence of images. That said, however, I felt that I should post this image to my profile as soon as possible, considering it's the second official reference sheet for an original character I've created, and I wanted to show it off! Plus Jashin didn't upload this version to his page, so currently this will be the only place where the text version is available.
Anyway, this is a phenomenal reference sheet for my horse character that I've been developing for a while, Sebastian, that was illustrated by
PriestofJashin! I really can't stress enough how grateful I am for it! If you've been following my profile for a bit, you may recognize this guy from a submission I re-uploaded almost a year ago, where he had a less complex design (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48949515/). I wanted to provide him with more flair when creating a reference sheet for him, and wasn't initially 100% sure what exactly it was I wanted, so this has been a character design adventure for both me and Jashin that took... around a month since the first sketches were made? I value the amount of patience Jashin had with this a lot, especially for an equine capable of a few unique poses! But now, he's finished, and I finally have a horse character to call my own!
Like I said before in the first image he appeared him, Sebastian actually originated in a roleplay I conducted as a throwaway character that was never really intended to appear again. I had a few other ideas for horse OCs, but after the first standalone picture was finished and the community reacted positively to him, I wanted to turn Seb into a recurring presence!
Stay tuned, and maybe I'll eventually have alternate versions to share! I was discussing some with Jashin, but didn't have the money for it this month. So any variations, if they happen, will have to come at a later date.
Name: Sebastian
Nickname: "Seb"
Species: Horse
Gender: Male
Age: 25 (mix between human and horse years)
Height: 6'3" (Quadrupedal) - 9'2" (Bipedal)
Weight: 1140 lbs
Pred/Prey Preference: 60% Pred - 40% Prey
Biography: While a horse (or any equestrian species, for that matter) that's capable of flawlessly replicating human mannerisms by standing and walking on their hind legs would normally be an unusual circumstance to witness, Sebastian hails from an existence where the sight is becoming increasing commonplace by the day. Residing in a fantasy setting, Sebastian is one of the immeasurable amount of creatures that was affected by a global, mysterious magical phenomenon that granted him and every other animal in the world sapience on par with that of humans, theorized to be an arcane accident by some. Now, it's not uncommon to see members of several previously unintelligent, big and small, standing upright and fulfilling roles previously reserved for people in society, attempting to find a place there.
Originally under the ownership of a lesser known knight as their personal steed, the two of them split up and went their separate ways when the noble found themselves uncomfortable with the knowledge that their equine companion could now speak and understand them. Despite Sebastian's insistence that they stay together and his remorse from being abandoned, as he still considered them a close friend upon attaining his advanced intellect, he eventually learned to appreciate the greater degree of freedom that he had achieved, and is determined to prove that he has the same place in the community as any other person.
Pondering ways that he could contribute to society, Sebastian eventually accepted a position as an agent of a transportation business, utilizing his natural physiology as a horse to ferry passengers from town to town. Due to this, he doesn't really have a permanent residence and lives on the move, getting to see a variety of locales. He tries his level best to be courteous and professional with his clients, but also has a tendency to awkward and shy when first meeting someone, worried that they might discriminate against him due to his status as a "lower" animal and be rendered uncomfortable by his tendency to walk on two hooves. However, he also has a mischievous, playful persona that emerges when interacting with people he trusts, and is quick to become friends with people who consider him an equal.
Oddly enough, Sebastian doesn't wear a saddle, and doesn't expect clients to ride on his back when travelling. Instead, he uses an alternative method, which is a closely guarded secret... one that involves swallowing people whole and alive, keeping them safely cushioned inside his outwardly swollen stomach as he gets them to their destination. In addition to using this as a way to spend less money on food, the sensation is also surprisingly intimate and pleasant for both parties involved, and he likes to exert his predatory side and tease meals that he may have unlocked a hidden interest for the experience in, relishing in the experience of being on the top of the food chain as a prey animal, even if he won't admit it.
This habit turned out to be a bit problematic when he learned that horses can't naturally vomit, and his first client ended up being encapsulated inside his belly for a significant period of time! He eventually developed the reflexes for it, however. Sebastian also isn't exclusively interested in playing the role of a predator, and curious enough about the opposite side of experience that he'd be willing to serve as a meal for another famished creature as well.
Comments are welcome and appreciated! I'm especially interested in knowing what people think of him!

I didn't really design Seb with the intention of him being particularly paunchy in mind, but yeah, he does look a little gut heavy from his frontal angle! I thought he looked too thin in the first sketch Jashin showed me for it, so as a solution to that he ended up getting a bit wider in his abdominal region. Horses are naturally heavy animals, even when accounting for their size in general, so I think Seb strikes a good balance between being lean but also retaining the usual weightiness of his species.
The gems embedded in his horseshoes are purely decorative! It's one of the accessory improvements I thought of when brainstorming his reference sheet - I thought a sapient horse might want to customize them, and all his other apparel sort of leans towards a red/black/white colour scheme.

Getting a low hanging four legged vore gut from Jashin for Sebastian is still on my to-do list, aha. I was contemplating purchasing a vore/belly alt for this, but didn't really have the funds for it at the time. I might still get it next month
You may be interested in seeing this! Different artist and style, and it was based off his limited design from my first commission with him because his reference wasn't finished when this was in development, but it's still him nonetheless!

Here's what I was thinking:
In the reference page we see Sebastian standing on two legs twice, in the second depiction I think he is "carrying one of his passengers" (correct me if I'm wrong), and only once on four legs when he is carrying no one.
This is one of the most beautiful horse reference sheet have ever seen!
High resolution detail, physical details of the character, personality, life history, everything I'm looking for is here.
I put the two drawings next to each other in my favorites because I like coherent drawings and stories to follow each other in sequence.

Professionally, I don't think Sebastian would be in the position to sample many birds! He likely doesn't run into many of them as clients due to flight already being one of the most effective transportation methods around. But hey, ever since awakening as a predator, he's always looking to discover new culinary flavours! And even if he wasn't hired for anything, I'm sure he'd indulge if you just asked~
Seb's personality quirk of teasing his meals with his position as a predator as a typical prey animal is mostly just for me, honestly. He's usually polite, but it's hard to resist having a horse character that doesn't point out the irony of role reversal!

Role reversal in vore is so much fun, I can’t blame you for finding it hard to resist.
And hopefully he likes bird when he gets around to trying it! It’s always fun to play around with an avian’s feathers in vore. And there’s so many teasy names to call a bird prey: poultry, chicken, drumstick.

Feathers are definitely one of the funnest things to be belched out in vore! And luckily for Seb, he's fully capable of doing that, which is abnormal for a horse since they normally can't burp... which makes it all the more impactful, in my eyes! And I'm sure the base of feathers could also be repurposed as half decent toothpicks, although I'm not sure Sebastian in particular would be able to hold one. Maybe one day he could snatch up a bird on his travels if he gets curious enough about their culinary contributions.
This is sort of a universal trait that you'll see among my characters - I have this fascination with regular (or "feral", as the furry community tends to classify them as) animals that are capable of casually carrying themselves like humans, even if their physiology makes it realistically improbable. I like the image of them defying what's expected of them. The reason varies between characters, but in this case there's a little bit of magic involved, along with practice.
Thank you! I was beginning to wonder if you'd ever seen any of the characters in my gallery after I saw the comment you left on
superorca's submission, heh. As I said there, "semi-anthro" is a term that I would use more to refer to my characters, but searching online seems to show that not everyone's of the same opinion on what the definition... so I've been stuck with "anthropomorphic feral", which doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well.

In general, it tends to be pretty rare to find feral horses/equines with those kinds of characteristics (in that they're capable of standing and walking upright) compared to other animals, so of course I had to make one of my own! And yeah, your definition of semi-anthro lines up with mine, I'm just saying the definition for the term tends to be different from person to person, so I'm always hesitant to use it. Some people might insist that "semi-anthro" and "semi-feral" are separately distinct categories and that Sebastian might fit the latter more, for example. And I've seen a couple of uploads with the semi-anthro tag that a basically just anthros but with a very slightly more bestial body shape.
Still, I'm glad you like him! It's always nice to find someone who may share this interest of mine ^^
