Madeline sits on his lap being affectionate, and invites him to pet her. Of course, Mark will never refuse to hug and kiss his wife, gently stroking her soft fur.
Perhaps something intimate will happen later, after all, something intimate often happens in this family, - but right now, they want to hug and be silent in peace and quiet.
