Kingdom: Animalia
Subkingdom: Eumetazoa
Phylum: Cnidaria
Subphylum: Medusozoa
Class: Hydrozoa
Subclass: Leptolinae
Order: Anthomedusae
Suborder: Capitata
Family: Hydridae
Genus: Hydra
Species: draconigena clipeatus
(Many hydra species that develop further than polyps fall into the a draconigena sub-species)
Nickname: Shield Hydra
Diet: Omnivore
Chronotyp: Nocturnal
Mating System: Polyandry
Social: Hive
Habitat: Mountains
Traits
Height: 1 - 4 Meters
Length: 3 - 12 Meters
Weight: 3 - 6 Tons
Avg Lifespan: 100,000 Years
After hatching enuagra are about 1mm in length and feed off small organisms in the ponds or lakes where they were spawned growing at an accelerated rate reaching 1 foot in length in approximately one week. In case where they are budded off an adult they are about one foot in length. When they reach their 10th century they become sexually mature and able
to reproduce.
A.1 & 2
The Enuarga's wings while large are not capable of flight without launching themselves of from a very high place first. When airborne the glide more than fly to conserve energy.
B
The side spines have one primary function climbing. These spines are pushed into solid rock or into crevices to increase stability when climbing. Enuagra have been known to sleep on the sides of cliffs when caught in the open at dawn.
C
This bony apparatus shields the major organs giving it the nickname shield hydra. It can function like a sled in snow. It is also used as a battering ram.
D
These are very sensitive to light and can see the infrared spectrum through a secondary lens that functions more-like an extra eyelid. During the day or when exposed to bright light their thick eyelids shuts out all light.
E
Each of the twelve heads has it's own brain which functions in a hive mind. They are highly intelligent. Their language consists of 1,000 different sounds and an unknown number of gestures..
F
The crystal in the claw palm at the end of the tail is used as a prey lure and in mating rituals. It is protected by poison spines that can be fired at attackers. During mating rituals the claws part allowing full view of the crystal. The crystal is bio-luminescent and resonates functioning like sonar. It is also capable of short bursts of blinding light.
Reproduction and life cycle
Enuagra live in groups of 3-5 consisting of an female-alpha and her mates.
When food is plentiful, many enuagra reproduce asexually by producing buds in the body wall, which grow to be miniature adults and simply break away when they are mature. When conditions are harsh, often before summer or in poor feeding conditions, sexual reproduction occurs in some hydras. Swellings in the body wall develop into either a simple ovary or testes. The fertilized eggs secrete a tough outer coating. These eggs are laid in lakes or ponds where they fall to the bottom to await better conditions, whereupon they hatch into small polyps. Within a week they grow to a foot in length developing the characteristics that make them distinct from the other draconigena species.
Enuagra like all hydras are hermaphrodites and may produce both testes and an ovary at the same time though not a common occurrence.
