Most cats simply have an instinctive aversion to being wet because it ruins their fur's insulating properties, and our human homes are typically a little too cool for feline tastes, so they're incentivized to stay dry. But if it's warm enough, and especially if the cat is of a shorthair breed originating from warm areas, they can quite enjoy swimming. Bengals, for example, are known to love playing in the water.
