Smokety, Pitch's father, is tutoring Sovaugle who everyone calls Owl. Owl is being mentored when Pitch walks up to his father. He's caught a very fat rat, with only small issues, and wants to share it with his father. Smoke, however, hates his weakling son. He glowers at the interruption and sees his mate in Pitch, Goldenrod. She died due to being weak to possession, and he firmly believes Pitch inherited it, as he's the only runt who survived in their litter.
Pitch is hopeful, though.
