ben sketches (and an otter)
every year or so i go to the museum of natural history in NYC and spend a little time sketching the tigers in the hall of biodiversity. they're the real inspiration for benjamin in my comic, honestly.
the reason i sketch those tigers is because they're encased in glass very close TO the glass, and at a corner, so you can move around them and get a good view of them from several angles.
the one thing i can't get from those tigers is their paws. since they're stuffed and mounted, their paws have no weight on them, and i just can't wrap my head around them. otherwise they're very helpful in general.
the page i just happened to be sketching on was the one with
talonfloraen's otter character, so uh. here he is again.

apparently they've loosened up their security since last time. the last time i was there, if i knelt or sat near the tiger i got told to get up and keep moving even though i was clearly drawing. this time there were two other people drawing the tigers and sitting on the floor. it was pretty boss, i'd love to see it become a Thing of the museum's.
