this page was a challenge. numerous ways.
technically-
it was impossible to get going on this. i'd travelled to new jersey, and travel always makes it really hard to work on a comic. but in addition to the travel itself, this time around, everything that could go wrong did. my laptop's wifi went out, the drivers completely corrupted AND the software dedicated to handling the wifi corrupted with it. rollbacks did nothing. after it was fixed, it was time to go to south new jersey...where there's no internet at all, to speak of. and when we came home? our internet crapped out with a broken router and we had to get a new one. WHY
socially-
being in jersey means i'm near my family and DEAR LORD do they love interupting all of my work ever
character-ly-
koji and ben hate eachother. they snip at eachother and are always close to blows whenever i draw them alone in close confines. this conversation needed to mark the beginning of an uneasy alliance based on aslilin's words. she had to break the ice and leave, and now they needed to solve it. the problem is that when i think of what these two would say to eachother, it almost invariably ends in "I DONT TRUST YOU" "WELL FUCK YOU THEN" after a fashion. it took a lot of preplanning, re-planning and re-thinking to direct the conversation in a way that i can eventually get the two working together. just really a pain.
also ben looks abysmal to me compared to my sketches from the museum, but i drew him before i went. so.
rest of the comic is online on my site

yeah, in spite of his teeth, ben would be totally hosed in a straight fight with koji. which is one of the reasons why, in spite of kind of wanting to, i'm trying to avoid drawing a fight scene between the two of them. koji's claws alone would send ben packing. plus he's got size and, as you said, limbs on him.
"also ben looks abysmal to me compared to my sketches from the museum, but i drew him before i went. so."
Seriously though, a comix audience is going to be pretty forgiving. Coloring covers a lot of sins, so to speak.
I like how his orange/gold highlights are absolutely Electric against his black fur.

yeah, ben's colouration has always been fun to do. with the exception of him killing all my grey markers.
and yeah ben is very forgiving to mistakes. but like even the futurama animation director said... "if you stare at any scene long enough, you'll find a mistake." nothing is perfect. but the original creator tends to have the flaws leap out at them.

Well, when it comes to cartoons and animation, if the art were perfect, you'd have photographs and cinematography.
I do like anime' because it is superior to most other animation, but if the characters didn't have big eyes and big hair and colorful clothes it just wouldn't be the same.

i always try to do something a little different, cause i feel like...y'know, professional comic layouts might be a little more clean-cut, but a webcomic is allowed to break standards. so trying new things and making the layout part of the art is kind of important.
From the sound of things Ben would gradually have to bring each sibling out of stasis and work to build their immune systems.
Koji just sees kids in tanks like lifeless specimens and his experience with his wife must show a view of life isn't life if your not living it. In this world would the children be able to live life when their such a blemish on the holy kingdom?
Sadly I think the worlds would have to change quite a bit for Ben's sleeping siblings to stand a chance. In a way they seem to both have good points, but miss the sad fact that morality has already been damned to produce these children. I can't see why they can't quite see each others points on this, they seem like the points on what people should fight for a future for these children.
Its definitely getting interesting. When Koji first meet Ben's siblings, it sounded like he thought he was the one that created them. Does Koji still think that?

he's going to explain in the next page, but pneumonia has been a big threat to this project in general. another reason he's interested in grey, which he hasn't revealed (since it seems awful uncouth compared to MY FAMILYYYYY) is that he reasons if grey has survived this long without a vaccination to it, he must either have antibodies or have been very lucky.
some of them of course will never be able to wake up without years and years of research on ben's part. which again requires as much information on the project as he can get, which requires grey. some are still only partially developed, some are permanantly maimed.
ben clarified that he wasn't the one who created his siblings, so koji's clear on that now. but he still doesn't like the idea of keeping family in tubes, you're right. he and his wife had that option but decided, like you said, it's not really life if you can't live it.
