Hi there.
Let me introduce myself, I'm a writer that has been working on a few projects. One I had for a while is this one, called "Lost in Time". As you see, the main character is Silver the Hedgehog, a Sonic character that has been my favorite ever since I became a fan. I had this idea idea about a story, something that might show not only the kind of world he lived in but also show what kind of hero he is. This is something I had for a while and now I finally going forward with it.
I also have to thank my good friend Silverkapa https://www.instagram.com/dsimping44/ for helping me design the cover of this story.
I hope you like this story.
It was a place in destruction.
What was usually imagined as an utopia, a location that might be considered better than a paradise was nothing more than a place in destruction. Cities that were destroyed, people that tried to survive daily in that harsh conditions and creatures of all kinds that were since the start doing nothing more than killing those who tried to survive in that exact location. But still, there were some around that tried to turn that disastrous place into a paradise, or at least a nice place to live.
One of the only ones who tried their best to change it was Silver, a gray-colored hedgehog with psychic powers. All of his life, the naive hedgehog lived alone in that catastrophic place that he called home. His routine was always the same, he would take some time to think about his progress and then he would fly around the city, looking for survivors that might come with him or fighting against those volcanic creatures that were always a menace.
That day wasn't different from the others, with the only main thing being that he skipped the first time of his routine, feeling that there was something else to take care of. At first, it looked like his intuition wasn’t right as the only thing he found was one of those lava lizards that he usually found daily, but on closer examination, there was something that the psychic hedgehog noticed: the creature had a Chaos Emerald in one of their claws.
The object in question was a powerful gem that Silver knew would help him with his goal of making the future a better place. He didn’t care if the lava lizard was bigger than the ones that he normally battled against, the naive hedgehog was going to do anything to obtain the powerful gem. Silver didn’t even wait for the lizard to do the first move as used hys psychokines to crush one of the legs of the creatures with one part of the destroyed highway they were standing on.
Although a great start from his part, it wasn’t enough to stop the lava lizard, who quickly ran towards Silver, trying to hit him with his it’s head. Both tried to hit the other, Silver using debris and rubble, and even some destroyed cars, and the lava creature using their head and tail. In the end, after tricking the lizard into attacking a destroyed building, the psychic hedgehog took advantage of the impact and used his powers to crush the lava lizard with a wall, killing it in the process.
“That was more difficult than I expected…but in the end, I got you, I finally got you in my power,” Silver said, smiling while looking at the Chaos Emerald, which wasn’t affected by the destroyed building. The naive hedgehog was gentle with the gem, being aware about its powers and how it would change things if he knew how to use it. “Oh, the others would love to know about it, I bet they would be happy about my discovery.”
Silver wasn’t talking about just the other survivors that he might have found, he was also talking about his own friends, ones who were in the past. In his trips, the psychic hedgehog never told them about how bad the future looked, with the only things he always mentioned being that it was a place in destruction and that he barely saw anyone other than him. There was also the emotional toll that meant being there, his friends were all together in the past while he had to in that timeline to complete his goal.
It was difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to let those thoughts affect him, but with the gem in his power, the naive hedgehog felt motivated to continue. He was going to save his world and then he was going to use the gem to travel to the past and see his friends more often. As he continued to smile, imagining all the things he might do with it, Silver looked at the sky before flying away, wanting to prepare for another day, but as he was leaving someone else was watching him from afar. After he left, the watcher walked towards the dead creature, looking at it closely while also looking in the direction where Silver flew away.
The next day, after being up all night, thinking about the Chaos Emerald and his friends, Silver tried to decide what to do first. Of course, helping restore his home was the main goal for him, but it was difficult to know where to start first. That was a personal thing from him, he had a good heart and his intentions were always good yet he always had issues thinking about a plan, except when the situation needed for him to act on the spot, where in that case he would go with the first thing that would come to his mind.
“Always the same, hehe. Sometimes I wonder what the others would do. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles definitely would talk about it together or with Amy. Shadow and Rouge would think of a plan and also a back-up, and Blaze…” the naive hedgehog stopped before saying what he had in mind, blushing as he reminded himself of someone very special to him. Out of everyone, the cat princess was the closest one to him, he even wondered how the future would change if she was there with him. “I think she would have the best idea in the world.”
He couldn’t hide his happiness, the emerald brought him motivation and good memories. After weeks where the naive hedgehog felt stuck with his goal, his discovery turned a normal day into one of the best he ever had. Silver would have continued like that, thinking about the changes and his friends in the past if it wasn’t for a sound that distracted him, which was from a lava golem, one of the biggest and strongest lava creatures.
“Well, my time has come. I’ll think about what to do with you later,” Silver said before flying in the direction where the sound came from. Upon his arrival, the naive hedgehog found the golem lying on the floor. It was obvious what happened, the creature was screaming for its life, and by the marks around its body, someone or something was responsible for the creature’s demise. “My best guess is that a bigger golem did that, that or maybe a flame tornado or just something else.”
Although he was used to seeing the creatures and other dangers around the city, Silver was perplexed to see a big and powerful monster like the golem being defeated just like that. Part of him felt worried that there was something more powerful than the lava creatures, but also wondered if this was caused by another survivor, someone that might be of assistance or was eliminating the other creatures for personal reasons.
As he continued to look at the lava golem, the psychic hedgehog started looking around, trying to find the one responsible for that or at least something that would give him a clue. He stopped looking at one building in particular, not believing his eyes as Silver saw a figure on top of a destroyed building. “No way!” he said out loud, confused yet hoping that it wasn’t a product of his mind.
The naive hedgehog tried connecting the dots, thinking about the golem and the possibility that the mysterious figure could be the one behind the defeated creature. Thanks to past experience, Silver didn’t go forward with the one in the building, instead he took a moment to think about his situation, while also wondering if it would be a good idea to trust the mysterious figure. It didn’t help that the last time he found one of those survivors who not only didn't help him, but tried to make one of the lava lizards kill him.
As he continued to think about the whole thing, the mysterious figure looked at him one last time before starting to walk away. “Wait!” Silver screamed before flying to the top of the building. He still was unsure about if that was a good idea yet wanting to have contact with another survivor was something he just couldn’t ignore. His loneliness and fear of remaining alone were more powerful than any other thing.
“Where did he go?” The naive hedgehog asked himself, trying to find the mysterious figure as he looked around the building , and also some of the other buildings that were close to him. It was difficult to keep himself calm after seeing someone else, Silver was trembling, moving from one side of the roof to the other, trying to find the other survivor. Looking down, he was left speechless as he saw him inside another building.
Instead of asking how he went from the roof to that building that fast, the psychic hedgehog jumped and flew closer to that place. Although a few seconds passed, once again, the mysterious figure disappeared from his sight. Again, Silver was confused, looking desperately for the survivor while trying his best not to panic. “Calm down, Silver…calm. You were doing good before, don’t ruin your streak, not after all you had worked on.”
He wanted to talk with the other survivor but he also didn’t want to be in that emotional state. Silver felt that he was doing good progress with that yet he couldn’t deny that this was taking a toll on him. It was important to find the survivor but it was also important for him to remain calm and sane. Pausing for a few seconds, thinking about his progress and his reasons to continue, the naive hedgehog went back to being calm, deciding to continue looking for the mysterious figure while also not letting his emotions overcome him.
Looking through the window, Silver once again saw the survivor, who was not only in the top of another building, but he was also levitating. “Maybe he is a psychic like me,” the naive hedgehog thought, surprised yet also taken by that idea. As it was something good, he remained calm, deciding to plan his next move instead of going forward with it. Originally, he was going to fly through the same place he entered, but after thinking about it, Silver went with a different idea and walked to the top of the building he was in.
As the mysterious figure looked away, Silver quickly flew in his direction. It was a good plan, and while he was closer, the other survivor still flew away, turning this into a chase. The two were like that for a while, flying in between buildings, avoiding lava creatures and almost being crushed by a building that was falling down. Even after the mysterious figure threw some things on Silver, he still was fast enough to avoid them. He was motivated to catch him, a sentiment that was noticeable to see.
Aware that the psychic hedgehog wasn’t going to give up easily, the survivor looked around, glad to see that there was something that might help him: a flame tornado. Without looking back, he went closer to. “Don’t go there!” Silver screamed, this being his last attempt to stop the survivor. Because of the chase, he was tired yet he tried to get closer to the mysterious figure one last time, hoping that would stop him or at least make them reconsider what he was going to do.
While the psychic hedgehog got close enough, he saw that the survivor was covered in bandages, a detail that wasn’t noticeable thanks to the hood he was wearing. The revelation made Silver question how that happened, and because he was distracted by that, the survivor went faster into the flame tornado, disappearing in front of Silver’s eyes. “It’s impossible that someone could survive that, even the lava creatures wouldn't.”
At first, he didn’t want to believe what he saw, thinking that the bandaged survivor would reappear again. It was such that he even flew around the buildings that were close to him, looking through the windows and the tops but in the end, he wasn’t there. Even after waiting for a few seconds to see his presence again, the naive hedgehog came to terms that the mysterious figure wasn't going to appear, and that once again he was alone.
“Maybe it was my mind playing tricks with me…wouldn’t be the first time,” he said, disappointed about how the chase ended. Although the bandaged character looked strange, Silver was glad to see someone else after months and hoped to talk with them. Looking around one last time, Silver eyed at the Chaos Emerald he found one last time before flying out of the place, oblivious to the fact that the mysterious survivor was looking at him from another building, one that wasn’t a bit far from where he was.
“I admit you were faster than I expected, you almost got me there,” the bandaged character said calmly, continuing to look in the direction where Silver went. He had a reason in particular for his presence, and for escaping instead of talking with him. The survivor even admitted that it was a bit risky, but he found some enjoyment in that and even tossed the idea of continuing with it, but after the pursuit, he had to take a moment to recover.“I hope you had some kind of enjoyment with this pursuit, because the next time will be very different from this.”
Between finding a powerful gem and a mysterious survivor, Silver had more things in his mind to think about. Still, his goal to protect the future and turn it into a better place remained there, even if he was affected by his emotions again, he wasn’t going to give up that easily. The naive hedgehog prepared for another day, hoping that it would bring him one step closer to make his dream come true, and while he was going to do that, the bandaged survivor was looking forward to another encounter.
One where he was going to do more than just starting a pursuit.
