But..but..it's traditional..
New years will be very unlucky unless the guests also partake in bringing in the new year.
It is said actually that unless the man of the house *atleast* get very drunk on new years, bad luck will follow and crops will fail.
So it's really more of a heart-felt duty. Well that and very much fun ^^
