Peridot tips her hand as it is revealed that the tiny figures are indeed the real deal now made fake. The incident occurred several hours prior, Peridot was working on a device to turn regular objects into miniature plastic versions, Peridot figured this was easier then making them and figure the humans have plenty of benches and stop signs to not miss a couple (completely unaware of their important use) when Pearl stopped to visit.
While Peridot tinkered with her device, Pearl said hello to Lapis, but still standoffish the aloof gem sat on her bubble of water trying give Pearl the hint she wanted to read her book not chit chat, but unbeknownst to both they found themselves frozen in this demeanor as Peridots device missired and the beam made contact with them both.
Pearl and Lapis's bodies turned rigid with a glossy sheen as molding seams formed around them as they began to greatly shrink in size until the two of them were no taller then a can of soda, unable to move at all and both of their minds trapped in a loop of the last second of sentience they both had, blissfully unaware what's happened to them.
Peridot began to panic, she'd put so much effort into the Plastic ray that she hadn't considered a need to reverse the effects, so with no immediate method of fixing the problem and time needed to reverse engineer her invention, Peridot decided to make use of them in their state.
Now glued in place, Pearl and Lapis were safely on display until a cure of sorts can be found and returned to normal, but it did give her a moment of pause...."if this invention worked so well on them....it might be just as effective on the diamonds?" Peridot giggled with the giddy glee at the prospect as she started wondering if her friends were better off like this instead, and as Amethyst and Garnet walked over looking for Pearl, Peri thought to herself "I could use a full set of crystal gems".
The end for now, might do more of this in the future.

I was interested in that so I did this real quick https://www.furaffinity.net/view/53242867/
as much as Id love to take credit for it, I have seen that before in images and stories, so I didn't invent it or many of my story tricks for that matter, BUT like any good creative, the things I don't make in pure originality I do alter and twist into something more fresh and sometimes more interesting :3
