BlackRat, aka Keanon Woods, had this commission on his plate from me for a long time. And a series of unfortunate circumstances kept thwarting this project. That, and a bunch of corrections/mods/whatever from me.
Here we have a not-really-canon Rooth origin story, to go along in the same universe with another story that I'll be posting soon. Sudden and unexpected transformation may be hazardous to your health! Especially under such treacherous conditions. But in the end, if you wind up as a dragon who's instantly capable of flight, there's really no danger. ;) One of the concepts that flipped between Keanon and I on this one involved the cliff-face being actually nothing more than a boulder. Especially since climbing with a harness but no rope or beeners made little sense otherwise. And in that version, this final scene wasn't of Rooth flying, but just Rooth standing on the ground, looking sheepish for having panicked so much in the first place. It was sort of intended as a punchline. But, I think that version was destroyed in a hard-drive crash or something, and when Keanon finally got the time to re-create the work, I told him to just go with his gut and get it done. The back-and-forth was clogging up the creative juices, and was a big hurdle to any likelihood of completion! *grin* I need to get better at stepping back and letting artists do their thing.
Anyhow, this is far more buff than I'd usually have Rooth drawn. But Keanon likes bulging muscles, and I did give him more freedom on this iteration. So I don't mind it much. Ironic, though, that now he's all super strong and probably a more capable climber, but with working wings, does he really need to climb anymore? Heck, even if he wanted to climb for the heck of it, those wings and tail are more likely to drag him off the cliff face than lend any sort of assistance.
Thank you SOOO MUCH, BlackRat, for stickin' to it and suffering the setbacks & tragedies, and putting up with my "what ifs" and tweaks and whatnot. This project was way delayed, but way worth the wait! I'm really happy with it.

Thanks! Indeed, I feel quite fortunate. This isn't the first art I've gotten from BlackRat, but the others were basically pin-ups -- this is definitely the first sequence. I'm not usually much of a fan of beefy muscly styles, but I like BlackRat, he's a cool dude, and there are plenty of other things to like about his style. I do wish his life was less chaotic, and gave him more time and energy for having fun with art. :)
Aw mate, I totally agree with you. I don't know much about his personal life but I'd love to see more of him expresing his art and not taking commisions all the time. He needs to add more art that he'd like to do. As for cahotic I remember when he had his computer screen going dark... XD poor lad. I also want him to update his bloody website! @.=.@
I bet you were over the moon though when you got a sequence of you TFing though, I'd be smiling all day. 5 pages isn't bad for a TF comic, it's the right amount.

*laughs* Well, I do try to portray Rooth as undouchebagish as possible. Although in this story I've just finished (and may post soon), he's a big arrogant and emo, but I tried to keep him .. 'genuine'? I dunno, we'll see how people receive it. But yes, I know what you mean regarding expressions and scale -- all too often I see hyper-muscled characters looking goofy, and I guess if I was a big fan of musculature, I might not care about the expression, but as that is not really my thing, such artwork is .. well, just silly. Sometimes technically fine, or good even, just silly. ;)
BlackRat, however, has a style I like, a talent for expressions, and I like him beyond his art, so even if he made Rooth a bit more buff than I imagine him, I'm totally fine with it. =)

Everyone likes things for their own reasons, and while it's very interesting to contemplate the philosophical motivations (muslces representing strength, feet representing foundation, tails representing pasts, breasts for compassion, .. the list goes on and on), ultimately we all like certain things for our own reasons, and only the experiencer can know the real reasons (and sometimes they haven't figured it out yet for themselves). It's certainly natural to admire strength and fitness, regardless of gender, whether it has to do with visual appeal, or is suggestive of something else. Arguably it's a more feminine inclination, but of course, it's hardly a requisite. Now, when it comes to paws or tails or such things, I wouldn't say it's 'natural' to admire such aspects, or at least, aside from the philosophical notions put forth, the evolutionary rationale for the attraction is harder to explain.
As for the PSS -- Why "Crap"? O.o

My take is: what difference does it make what one's gender or sexual preference is for casual platonic conversation? Unless and until romantic interest begins to develop, such things are moot. Besides, when it comes to romance potential, this place (and the fandom in general) is the last place I should be looking, for I am triple damned in this fandom -- hetero, male, and now in my fourth decade. My chances here are needle thin. Therefore, treating everyone here with equal platitude is the pragmatic, polite, and practical approach. (Hmm, maybe platitude was the wrong word, but basically I mean, platonic regard). It's only when people get affectionate or too cozy or suggestive that I put up my defenses. Again, regardless of gender or preference, though I am naturally weakest against females (but I assume any v-fur is male 'til proven otherwise, so that's less often an issue *grin*).
Long-winded answer, but I hope it makes sense.

Hooray for Keanon......every sequence of Keanon is a good sequence, but thanks for being a dragon this time...waited a long time for a new dragon sequence of Keanon^^...Nevetheless thanks to the comissioner^^
Btw, i do not think that dragons are good in climbing, they have not filigrant enough hands and feet with such claws..like any predator their hands are designed to hold prey and not to climb...except they are like cats^^

Cats are excellent climbers, though. As are snakes. And most lizards. But yes, regardless of how good a dragon or lizard-like creature could /become/ at climbing, it's still very dangerous to become a dragon while climbing as a human. Even aside from the "OMG WTH!?" factor that would cause any person to freak out and fall, humans would use much different footholds and handholds than a dragon would, so they'd be all out of position after the transformation.
Oh, and wings. Why climb when you can fly, right? ;)

Good call. The original concept for this sequence involved Rooth falling to the ground, but the punchline was that he was only bouldering, so the ground was not so far away (akin to someone falling in water, and freaking out 'cause they can't swim, thence to discover that they can just stand up). In that version, Rooth would have wound up about as big as the boulder he was previously climbing. But, somehow that concept slipped through the cracks and this came out instead. Which is fine -- this sequence will actually be the graphically illustrated story that Rooth tells to another character, who then brings up the same issue you just did, basically "how were you able to fly so soon after transforming?" To which Rooth answers, "Erm .. uh .. DON'T QUESTION IT!" or something. ;)
